so here i am having a blast at bonnaroo, watching pearl jam put on a great show, and then hearing a bit of a few other shows (money mark, sigur ros, and phil lesh to be specific) before what was drummed up to be a crazy glow in the dark show by kanye west

he was scheduled for 2:45 am, so the pit of the night

first they pushed it back a little here and there. twas okay, since pearl jam played over their slotted time. but the bastard didn't start until 4:25am, and after about 2 songs, the sun was rising and the whole effect was gone. i left around 5:30, a few songs before the end, but he never actually addressed the dwindling audience once.


and in the end, this hot shit show he talked about wasn't half as good as most of the other shows i went to during the weekend

I wonder what the deal really was. I've had to work on technical shows where something just wouldn't work right, failed equipment etc. Maybe it was something like that, really out of his control and he didn't want to single out the tech guy who couldn't get something working?


Then again Kanye is a massive overpowering douche.

i half think it was technical (maybe the original delay?) since pearl jam played about 45 minutes over their scheduled slot on the same stage

and half i think he was waiting for all the other acts to finish (which i would have watched some/more of if i had known). phil lesh was scheduled to play until 4:15 and if he did, that meant kanye started about 10 minutes after he was done.

If there's a legitimate reason for a delay (transportation, equipment problems), you make an announcement at least.

Kanye is a prick. I wasn't dumb enough to actually stay and wait for the asshole, though. You really missed out on Sigur Ros, man. Best show I saw at this years Bonnaroo, and one of my all time favorite Bonnaroo experiences.

Supposedly Kanye was in Atlanta that night for a "birthday bash" for young jeezy. the radio station broadcasting the show was HOT107.9, and supposedly their site confirms he was in Atlanta that night. I'm too lazy to investigate, though.


*Edit, lets not leave out the fact that he was originally scheduled at 830 or so, had a hissy fit because he was on the second biggest stage, Jack Johnson was playing the same time as him, and he wanted to play later to fully accommodate his glow in the dark show.

So they move him to 2.45 am, Kanye decides to be a diva once again and has Phil Lesh's set cut an hour short, so no one would be playing the same time as him. How disrespectful can you be? Phil Lesh was a founding member of the Grateful Dead, and while I'm not really a Dead fan, he gets a hell a lot more respect from me than Kanye.

And then he doesn't bother to go on until 4.30. He cut a music legend's set for no reason, and remember how he wanted to be rescheduled to accommodate his glow in the dark show? Well he didn't go on until the sun was coming up.

And not even one apology. He didn't even perform half the amount of time he forced his fans to wait on him.

^yeah, i watched sigur ros for about an hour, wandered over to phil lesh for 45-60 minutes and then went over to see kanye.

they put up notices on the screen stating some delay, but the last time posted was 3:30 and that stopped showing up around 3:15.



that was about my only negative with the whole weekend. if i had known that the show was going to be that short and less impressive than talked up, i would have stuck around longer for those other sets and probably caught lupe fiasco's set as well.

I have Hendrix Woodstock and what I can't get over is the camera shot of people leaving the show.

Can you imagine that--Leaving Hendrix giving his Grand Finale of Woodstock. Sure there were time discrepancies as to when he was to play and all but these were hippies. Where did they have to go?

Not saying that Kanye West is anything like JH but just rattling around about while my keyboard types.

the last shows of the night are sciheduled to end by 4am, and i think the earliest set started around noon each day. so there was that 8 hours or so of downtime.


bangkok- they were talking about that on the radio the other day. i can't believe it myself! its as if nobody realized what they were doing...
