I must say, I almost expected them to do this, but they've kind of redeemed themselves in my eyes. This is music that doesn't entirely suck. I bet it will be the abject death of the group, though.

I was particularly impressed by the Violet Hill. To the point where I like it. I'm man enough to admit these things. I saw the Sex and the City movie, too. And it had a humping dog + nudity so = partial win. But I digress.

The only Coldplay I've ever heard is what Chris Martin played on Extras. True story.

The advertising campaign is relentless and boring. They had itunes ads during the NBA Finals, I thought that coldplay were sort of like middle-aged housewife music, why have ads during the NBA Finals? The two do not match in anyway.

They have another commercial which has inundated the airwaves here in the US. The new record has very good reviews and they're set to tour and all, EMI lost Radiohead and must be bending over backwards to do the right thing by Coldplay hence the ad campaigns.

They seem to be a fairly decent bunch of fellows, not my cup of tea though.

This album redeems themselves from the disappointment that was X&Y. fuckin 'lost!' should be the next single

I'm glad to hear you say that. I haven't checked out the new CD yet, but I hated X&Y and I think they're a strong live band so I want them to succeed.

I'll buy the new CD soon. I'm curious about Eno's contribution. The single kind of sounds like U2 to me with Chris Martin on vocals.

I hate that ad. The one with Chris Martin with his arms held out in a Bono/Scott Stapp pose. I'm sure the album doesn't suck, but that ad scares me away from checking it out. And the song sounded like your typical U2 song. Meh.

I'll stick to music that rocks. You guys can keep your music that "doesn't entirely suck."

I like whatever their single is that is out right now, I think its Violet Hill. I was also a bit dismayed and embarassed when it occured that I did not hate it. I turned 30 last year so I thought it might be a sign that I was getting old. :(

hahahahaha! I was thinking exactly the same thing this morning when I found myself humming along to Violet Hill. A year ago I would have spat at my stereo and jumped out of the window had I found myself indulging in such dad-rawk sensibilities. Urgh

Calling Coldplay "dad-rock" is an insult to Fleetwood Mac.

And dads.

PS. Don't feel too bad, Dorothy, I think most girls secretly love Coldplay.

It's brave that they are doing a concept album of sorts but when Coldplay drop an album it's hard to avoid knowing about it or them. They're bloody everywhere (n)

Andy Gill : Why I Hate Coldplay (http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/andy-gill-why-i-hate-coldplay-844190.html)

Pompous, mawkish, and unbearably smug, Coldplay have conquered the charts with the sonic equivalent of wilted spinach, argues Andy Gill. And in the process, they've poisoned an entire generation of British rock music

I love that review, honestly it is spot on. My feelings exactly.

Fuck, haven't any of these bands ever listened to the Kinks?

"Viva La Vida" is decent so far, but it's not really anything as good as "Parachutes" or "A Rush of Blood to the Head." "X&Y" was okay, but not what it could have been. This latest is just above "X&Y."

But I'll give it a closer listen before my final verdict.
