yeah...that shit isn't ska. but i do like some madness and the specials. the toasters just played our town festival two weeks ago. thats kind of sad....like calling them ska.

it's considered "3rd wave". i've always liked the toasters.

i mean if you want to be technical, the specials, madness, selecter and all those two tone bands aren't real ska either.

gotta go back to shit like the skatalites and toots and the maytals to get the real ska roots.

I meant it for that whole genre, not just the toasters.

and thats the shit im talking about...listening to some good ole Ethiopians right now. (y)

fact: there are no good modern ska bands that exist. even the specials suck when they perform now.

I prefer to sit around and listen to my old selector and madness 12"'s and make myself a drink in the dark. modern ska is like watching a bunch of awkward white guys 1/2 play rock with a bunch of bad british accents and trumpets. no thanks.

not fact. the aggrolites are an amazing group out of the US as are the pietasters and several others. no british accents involved at all.

but i WILL agree... man i hated seeing the specials live. saw them about 12 years ago and they were really.... just not good. no TERRY!

it's because suggs is out making loadsa dough (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erjVJC4hw_w&feature=related) doing adverts for birdseye (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-chd1v38Kho). or something.

The pietasters are also embarrassing. I've tried to give that band a chance sooooooo many times and have actually felt so awkward at the show that I had to leave. I saw them in the nineties and was mightily impressed as they had the suits and the whole thing together, but last time I saw them they had these bad prison union suits and were all "high-energy" ska-punk. blech no thanks. Haven't heard the aggrolites and honestly I'm too lazy to bother since I know they will suck.

i don't think i'd ever explain the pietasters as "ska-punk" they're soulful ska. probably the band i've seen the most in my lifetime.

prison union suits? maybe they were impostors! i've seen them twice this year and they're still the same style they've always been. ooh! maybe it was halloween! :p

i'm done talking now since i'm obviously wrong.

prison union suits?

I'm not joking! shit was pretty dumb as a I recall very clearly feeling disappointed when i didn't see them in their usual 3 button suits and slick attitude. I even still bought a button, in a desparate attempt to still believe they didn;t suck, but they sure did suck.

The only punk/ska hybrid I will ever voluntarily listen to is the Clash's cover of Toot's and the Maytal's "Pressure Drop."

And that still doesn't come close to trumping the original. Great music for lighting up to.
