that thing's slow as hell, i've tried a bunch of stuff, and none of it's worked

i tried using a plumber's snake/hand auger/whatever you want to call it but i couldn't get it to work because i couldn't maneuver it through the curve of the pipe, it just hit the bottom and refused to go anywhere else

i tried chemical cleaners, and they worked a little, the drain moves a little faster now but it's still backed up

i tried vinegar & baking soda which i heard was supposed to work, but it didn't do anything.

i tried a plunger, i plunged the hell out of it, but i feel like it made it go even slower, so that didn't do anything

what else is there?

When all else fails, call a plumber. The Mario Bros!

I've tried loads of other things, but this one (http://www.liquidlightning.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13&Itemid=31) is the only one that ever works. Use with adequate ventilation!!!! This crap is brown like Coca Cola, and smells like a dead horse. But it will kick the crap outta' any clog.

Wear gloves, and don't get any on ya' it's strong.

Or you could do it the old fashioned way, and drop a cherry bomb down the pipe.

get a new shower because I know nothing about plumbing but if I did I'd be a plumber because they look like they get laid a lot according to 70's porn movies

Turn the water off, go under the house to where the pipes are and take them apart until you find the clog. Then, get rid of whatever is in there.

You don't need a plumber. Sure, it might be best to call a professional when it comes to wiring your house or getting rid of a termite infestation, but what could possible go wrong with doing your own plumbing?

ummm... gas poisoning, boiler explosions, flooding, lavatory pipes backing up?

plumbers are hideously over priced though. we have a good one who tells us what we can do ourselves. i also trust him not to be ripping us off.

I'm pretty sure that gas isn't that dangerous.

try a wire hanger. unfolded into a long single wire of course. that's the only way I've ever unclogged a tough drain. it works like the snake, but it's skinnier and more rigid, so it pulls out the gunk better.

you're in for a disgusting job though. it's really horrible seeing what's down there.

The thing that grosses me out when I've had to do that is... I think that since it's clogged, something's gotten stuck in there and hardened, right?
Nope. I pull stuff out and it's wet and vile and made up of suspicious-looking gunk.

Have you tried this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEMibtXHtFQ)?
Or check this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2tGhlJxoSI), just remove the curve!

My old roommate (who I hated) had his fiance over constantly - and since it was my job to clean the shower I was always having to coat hanger her hair out of the shower drain every few weeks.

One of the many factors that led to our mutual resentment of eachother.

the plumber's snake i used was not unlike the flexi snake in that first video, but it was a bit more rigid and hard to push through the curve of the pipe...maybe i should look for a new snake.

i don't know how to remove the curve or anything unfortunately; it's the drain in my tub that's the problem and i have a second floor apartment, i have no idea where that pipe is. here's a diagram (everything under the tub is underneath the floor)

the clog must be somewhere past the red line, because i stuck the snake as far down as it could go and i didn't hit anything.

1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup vinegar
(can use a little more if your talking real deal biz here)
mix together and send all of it down the drain (you need to be quick to get a good paste going)
let sit about a half hour to an hour
flush with hot water.

Do this for a week. End of problem for you. I swear.

i tried using half a cup of vinegar and half a cup of baking soda, twice in the same day actually, using two different methods (the first time i flushed immediately with hot water and then used a plunger as per something i read on the internet and then the second time i let it sit for about 3 hours before flushing with hot water and did not use a plunger, as per something else i read on the internet) but it didn't seem to have any effect. will it do something different if i do it every day for a week?

patience is a virtue. It will need time to give the biz to your hardcore sounding clog. I've also had VERY slow drains that were magically fixed by doing this. I do think the cumulative effect will clear more of the drain- but you also have to want to do it this way as there as several very caustic chemicals that will do the same thing in about a half hour (although you do get to feel morally superior and smug that you did it without poisoning the environment this way- but, you know whatever, dude- your call).

Id use a mix of nitric and hydrochloric acid. you would probably have to warn the entire building to not put any bleach contain products down the drain for the next week though.
