bugs bunny or mickey mouse?
daffy duck or donald duck?

i love them both for different reasons but i just love the violent, screwball wackiness of looney tunes compared to the innocent disney animation.

ah... such fond memories of looney tunes on nickelodeon.

i'd say this gives them the edge

its a no brainer - looney tunes is funnier, better characters, funnier voices, better stories, better accidents etc.

the tasmanian devil would take all of disney on himself and win..easy. they should make a film of that.

Are you including Pixar with Disney?

mate_spawn_die
06-27-2008, 10:18 AM

Guy Incognito

ooooh - that changes everything. in both cases, there's some good characters and lines etc and the incredibles would kick everybody's arse

Folding Pixar in with Disney at least makes it more of a fair fight.

You just know Elastigirl could kick Snow White, Pocohantas, Belle, and Cinderella's asses with one arm tied behind her leg.

I dunno. I guess I just don't understand what the impetus would be to compare them, TBH. I've been watching an awful lot of Disney films lately, and I have to say, watching a lot of this stuff now as an adult, I'm kind of impressed by stuff that went right past me as a kid. For example, in the Jungle Book - if you look at the way that Mowgli moves, it's really this very accurate representation of an adolescent boy, with very long loose limbs. And in Dumbo, the "Pink Elephants" sequence - bloody hell, you'd never get that in a kid's film today.

Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme...

mate_spawn_die

yeah, the old disney animation films are classics... it's a tough question to answer. i might put some of them in my queue and watch them with adult eyes.

I voted based on just the t.v. cartoons. disney's animated features definitely beat everything though.

I think I'm seeing it this afternoon. (y) Yeah -- the reviewers are doing backflips. It's got a 98% on the Tomatometer right now.

I went "Disney" anyway, almost entirely because of the Pixar factor.

As far as the classic cartoons go, Looney Tunes hands down. No competition.

I don't think it's fair to bring Pixar into the fight, because it's an entirely different market and Warner Bros doesn't really have any equivalent. Disney/Pixar has a monopoly on good cgi family films. Plus, I think it's fair to say that most of the magic is with Pixar, and not Disney.

Agreed- this is not a fair fight- Looney tunes are the most influential cartoons in history- plus the best. Disney sucks rotten turds- if someone ever told me they would rather watch a god awful huey, duey and louie slit your wrist suck fest over any looney tune I would think they were homicidal serial killing drifters who had lost all touch with reality in a freak arm wrestling match.

Not exactly fair to compare Disney movies to Looney tune tv shows for a few reasons
1 No Looney Tune movies- but they would of kicked ass!
2 Disnry made tv show cartoons and (as mentioned before) were the biggest affront to television and childhood ever- in fact I believe they caused blindness and anal leakage.

OK yes- Disney movies are technical marvals that blow the hell out of the modern cgi animation- but it wasn't the animation that made looney tunes SO supierior (although they were very well animated) and conversely Disneys excellent animation (what do you expect they worked on those joints for a damn decade!) did not make them smarter, funnier or ballsier than looney tunes.

1st round knockout by looney tunes!
Down goes Mickey!

But if you had actually read the question that was being asked, rather than the question you wanted to answer, it was about which one had better animation. Not which one you think was smarter, ballsier, or funnier.

But if you had actually read the question that was being asked, rather than the question you wanted to answer, it was about which one had better animation. Not which one you think was smarter, ballsier, or funnier.

snippy much? I think it should be a basic right in the constitution to only answer the questions we want to answer- regardless of what weve been asked! I mean if our politicians can do it all the time, why can't we? I say we can, nay should!

As for interpreting the question- I took animation to mean the whole package- otherwise were asking who our favorite animators are- a much less fun question. But even if you wanted to go with the tight ass-iest interpretation I still say its a real debate as looney tunes are extremely underated in terms of their look.
While Disney may have been very good at replicating true movement of people (probably the best ever at that), Looney tunes went a totally other way and were stylized in a way that their look defined the medium (i.e. everything after it was derivative of its look). So I would say they were just as influential for their animation as well as how well written smart and funny they were. So yet again I say no brainer that they are better than Disney.
Was that the question you wanted me to answer?
;)
