Heard Adam Hills on the radio talking about this lady's business acumen. When she recorded 'I will Always Love You', Elvis approached her to buy the song for $200, 000. She wouldn't sell it as she wanted to retain the rights, and Elvis didn't do rights, he just bought songs outright. So she held out, and when Whitney Houston eventually did the song, Dolly raked in like $7 million in royalties.

Intriguing....

She's always been quite honest about her perception in the industry, too.

See, coming home from the vets and thinking about what Adam Hills had just mentioned, I kind of thought Bob would be the only one really renegade enough to call her out on her bosom. I couldn't admit that I was thinking about Bob in real life, so when I got to me computie I went with Lopp and Turd.

Didn't she say "It costs a lot to look this cheap" or something? I know about the rain/rainbow one. That's quite profound, that one.

I'm not going to limit myself just because people won't accept the fact that I can do something else.

Exactly.

dolly is a legend.

my flatmate is a huge fan. i just last month bought her some really cool kitsch dolly badges. she wears them with pride.

her favourite song is the bargain store. i'm sure she could talk for hours about her, but i don't know as much.

she's rad. i think she always comes off as really bouncy and positive and more than happy to take the piss out of herself.

she's not that bad an actor, either. steel magnolias what what.

p.s. dolly parton's bust.

Oddly enough a thread about Dolly Pardon would come up right after my horrible nightmare last night, you see I dreamed I was Dolly Pardon's baby and she bottled fed me.

sigh... when does it ever end....

always really liked "Jolene" , that is a beast of a record. I know of three covers of it which are good as well.

Strwaberry Switchblade
White Stripes
One Dove (this is the best one)

9 to 5 is still a terrific movie. I would think it would be dated but it's not.
