so there's a tibetan restaurant near me, and i walked by it and it said it was closed in celebration of the dalai lama's birthday, and i got all excited, because you know, the dalai lama is reincarnated, and i was born on the same day as him, so maybe like, they just got the wrong guy (and the wrong year). but i looked up the dalai lama on the internet, and apparently he was born on the 6th, not the 5th. those assholes got it wrong, they got me excited for nothing

also funny story about the dalai lama; i was taking an eastern religion class in college (buddhism hinduism taoism etc), and we were discussing buddhism and the whole karma thing and the tsunami that wiped out southeast asia had just recently occurred and someone asked how buddhism accounts for something like that, and the professor said "well i guess the explanation would be that they must have done something in a past life to deserve it" or something like that, and everyone kind of dropped their jaw and was like "what, no, buddhism is a happy religion about fluffy bunnies, they would never say something horrible like that!"

but then a week or two later, i was watching the news, and the dalai lama was on, talking about the tsunami, and sure enough that was pretty much his explanation for why it happened. my professor knew what he was talking about apparently

at least i think that happened, i dunno, i didn't really pay attention in college. anyway, happy birthday DL!
