Of course I was excited before when I heard that One Day As A Lion was coming out (Zack De La Rocha of RATM and Jon Theadore of The Mars Volta) on July 22, but then I was flicking through the liner notes of the project on the website (http://www.onedayasalion.org/) and noticed that itīs been mixed by Mario C, just to throw more wood on the fire of excitement!!!
Fuck Iīm excited about this... just thought Iīd share it!! :D

Well, I think that One Day As A Lion is something completely seperate to Zackīs solo album - a different project altogether. Only time will tell, of course, but I think that the tracks with Trent Renzor, DJ Shadow and co. will surface eventually.
In the meantime, Iīm pretty damn happy with a self-titled EP... It seems to me like it will just be a building block to something bigger and better... (y)

Picked this up today on the way to school. I really enjoyed it. Tracks 1 and 4 are fantastic, but I dig the whole thing.
Bring on the LP!
they've been playing a track of his over here on triple J. forget what it's called but it's not that bad. pretty typical sound, but that doesn't mean it's bad.

One Day As A Lion is sick!
No one does the Hip-Rock, Rock-Hop, Rap/Rock thing better than Zach De La Rocha.
Side note: This isn't that far reomved from the RATM stuff, back when they broke it was because Zach was heading in a (more rap orintated) differnt direction.
I know it's ten years later Zach, but if this is the different direction you wanted, you should have stayed with the band and bought some used effects equipment from Bjork!:D

yeah, its not overly different from RATM.
It is quite good. Some of the songs are great, others get a wee bit samey.

holy shit
the drumming in this is so fucking BIG. big is the only way to explain it. it's like a more ferocious bonham (y). i never realised how god jon theodore is. i guess in the mars volta all the chaos that's going on, things can get drowned out.
i like how zach uses the keyboards as the rhthym/bass guitar and his lyrics kinda take the form of a lead guitar. i never heard keyboards used in such a heavy, riff filled fashion.

it opens strong, but kind of slowly dwindles as the ep progresses, for it all sounds the same.
on another note, though, when zack left rage a few years back he reasoned that it was because all of the rage albums sounded kinda similar. he said something like, "rage against the machine albums are very predictable, you always know what you're gonna get and what its gonna sound like". which is understandable from the perspective of an artist who wants to express different things and not get pigeon-holed into one sound, but now that he's steering his own ship with this release, it sounds like he's just trying to replicate the same sound he already was kicking (and kicking better) with ratm. i dunno, it just seemed kinda awkward to me.
