king of the road is a good un - its easy to sing which is good for me as i am shit.

I did "Stand By your man" once at a wedding for a laugh. "Sometimes its hard to be a woman.." and then i went all blues brothers at the end.

A mate at college used to do big numbers like "suspicious minds" and "you've lost that lovin feelin" and he always used to start off like he didnt really want to be there and almost mumbling then at the first chorus he used to spring into life and really belt it out and start throwing himself all over the stage.

karaoke is sweet
soju helps
i'd avoid rapping cos it's just too hard and wordy and almost never sounds good
i'd recommend busting out the home and away theme song accapella "you know we belong together..."

Sitting On The Dock of The Bay is always good. Doesn't require too much range. (y)

As soon as someone mentions the word Karaoke I have flash backs to a friends version of 'Scatman's world' by (John) Scatman. It was either that one or 'Scatman (Ski Ba Bop Ba Dop Bop)'. Whichever one that was big over here in the mid nineties.

I wish we had camera phones back then.

I've only ever been to karaoke once-years ago in a tiny middle-of-nowhere kent pub. we signed our mate up to do dancing queen and he kind of got us barred by swinging the mike around his head and booming really loud-i laughed so hard my ears hurt.

i would love to do something impossible like "i was born under a wandering star"

that or alphabeat-oh yeah!!

The best song to sing (or more to scream) is "Killing in the Name of"!
Otherwise I always sing with my dear husband "We built this City" from Starship :D

My friends and I go to a fun karaoke night all the time out here in Vegas. We actually just went on Saturday.

Crowd was small and we got a lot of love from people, so we got a lot of turns.

I did:

RHCP - Soul to Squeeze (heard it in the car on way there and remember I liked the "it's bitter baby and it's very sweet" part

Jay Z - Dirt off Your shoulders (tore that up, first time I did it ever)

Bboys - Brass Monkey (with one pal)

Bell Biv Devoe - Poison (This was the hit of the night. Did it with my bud again. He's a really good singer and it was funny as shit.)

Some others that I'm "known" for or do well:

Paul Revere
Jump Around

I love 'yoke!!!

I've never done karaoke, because I'm chickenshit and I don't know any karaoke bars around here.
But I karaoke at home, and I always sing loudly at concerts. Killing in the name is fantastic one to do. Specially the MOTHERFUCKEEEER at the end.
I have scared grown men by screaming that. :o

But apart from screaming I don't know if I could do it. My singing voice is rather sucky.

disclaimer: i've never done PUBLIC, in-a-bar karaoke, i'm talking singstar/at friends, here. i'm a coward.

there exists a video of me doing a duet it's tricky on singstar. i think i was run. anyway, it should never get into the public sphere - well, providing i don't terribly wrong the person who has a copy, ha.

i think with karaoke (what a great word) the more outrageous and out of your vocal skill-range the better. it's all about the comedy.

my friend was telling me last night she did karaoke once and the wrong song came on - it was toni braxton's unbreak my heart - and she had to stay up there singing it. that song is so incredibly hard to sing because it gets so loooooow at points.

easy songs to sing for me include anything by lily allen. i can do all of her songs on karaoke. she sort of sings like she is in the bath. not too much of a stretch.

but no - i think big, epic songs are the way forward. or cool doowop-type things. i've done rrrrrrrrrrrrreet petite by jackie wilson, that is always hilarious.

being australian, i think you simply HAVE to do you're the voice by john farnham. that is a CLASSIC karaoke tune. and everyone will join in in the WOOOAHHH OOHHH OOHHH WWWAAAHOOOHHH-OH-OH bits.

OMG john farnham songs are SO hard to sing.

i did a great version of "counting the beat" on singstar, except it can get a bit tiring towards the end with the repetitiveness.

i wonder if karaoke places have white lines.

oh, perhaps. i should think so. they have paid in full by eric b and rakim on singstar. a nice big plate of FISH which is my favourite DISH. hahaha.

you can call me al is another 'easy' song to sing and a crowd pleaser!

I have a great voice but don't sing in public but have done a few times when shitfaced at Karaoke places.
I've sung 'Blue Moon', a lot I can't remember cos' I was really shifaced and 'Everybody Hurts' by R.e.M. on that Singstar game when I was also shitfaced and copying Michael Stipes voice

I used to go alot more often. Im pretty good cause i have a manly singing voice but I can bust out operatic highs when i want.

my staples are usually 60s hits so im wicked at:

do wah diddy - manfred mann
day oh - harry belafonte
gloria - van morrison
bits and pieces - dave clark five
house of the rising sun - animals

my favorite duet is to sing "midnight rambler" by the allman brother with a good friend of mine. we got nominated to be last song of the night with that one before.

Ive also been booed by pub waitresses because this same friend and I did a axel rose/james hetfield version of winter wonderland that wasnt received lovingly by the entire audience one christmas season.

Another One Bites the Dust is always a crowd favorite and it's pretty hard to screw up even though it's kinda fast.

not gonna lie, i'm pretty amazing at karaoke. i do a wicked Dust in the Wind, and my My Sharona is unbeatable. other notables:

most any Smashing Pumpkins
most any Queen - specifically Somebody to Love
No Doubt - Sunday Morning

i can also get 100% on expert for Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps on Rock Band. i can't wait for Rock Band 2 so i can sing Rebel Girl.

do NOT sing love shack or rock lobster (if you're a guy which you're not but i already started this post so why not finish)

they both seem like kind of gimmicky and fun karaoke songs but here's why they're actually both bad ideas:

love shack is rough because most of the lyrics are actually sung by the female backups and they're kind of the same thing over and over again; you spend most of the time just kind of standing there and watching the screen awkwardly, interspersed with very gay singing

rock lobster is a little better but the only problem is that it's about 7 minutes long and about half of it is "here comes a narwhal!" followed by horrible dolphin noises and people are sick of you by about halfway through

i watched a friend do it once, it was awful
