So I'm watching the news the other night and they interviewed this woman (late 30s to early 40's), who said this was her 233rd Bon Jovi show that she's been to (that is NOT a typo). . .and it got me thinking about the fan(s) the Beasties have that follow them around on tour.
Is that just EXCESSIVE? I mean I know the dude has seen a million faces, and he's rocked them all, but what makes people like this become so obsessed with a band?
And it didn't sound like she ever gets cheap seats. (The Bon Jovi show in Central Park was free but that didn't stop scalpers from selling tickets for as much as $1,500 each.)
Maybe it's just me, but I can't fathom seeing any artist or performer 233 times.
Now I know the Grateful Dead fans were legendary for following them around and seeing every show they could, but I give the Dead fans a pass on that one. The Dead had a diverse repertoire and every show was different because they rotated what they played and the music was secondary to what else was going on at those shows. The parking lots and scenes at Dead shows were as much of a reason to go as the music.
Bon Jovi only rotates a couple songs a night, so you are basically hearing the same songs . . . night . . . after . . . night, similar to what the Beasties do on a tour.
And what goes through Bon Jovi's or the Beasties head when they come out, show after show, and see the same person in the same exact spot in the front row? It has to somewhat of a concern for the artists, No?
