View Full Version : When does it become too much?

So I'm watching the news the other night and they interviewed this woman (late 30s to early 40's), who said this was her 233rd Bon Jovi show that she's been to (that is NOT a typo). . .and it got me thinking about the fan(s) the Beasties have that follow them around on tour.

Is that just EXCESSIVE? I mean I know the dude has seen a million faces, and he's rocked them all, but what makes people like this become so obsessed with a band?

And it didn't sound like she ever gets cheap seats. (The Bon Jovi show in Central Park was free but that didn't stop scalpers from selling tickets for as much as $1,500 each.)

Maybe it's just me, but I can't fathom seeing any artist or performer 233 times.

Now I know the Grateful Dead fans were legendary for following them around and seeing every show they could, but I give the Dead fans a pass on that one. The Dead had a diverse repertoire and every show was different because they rotated what they played and the music was secondary to what else was going on at those shows. The parking lots and scenes at Dead shows were as much of a reason to go as the music.
Bon Jovi only rotates a couple songs a night, so you are basically hearing the same songs . . . night . . . after . . . night, similar to what the Beasties do on a tour.

And what goes through Bon Jovi's or the Beasties head when they come out, show after show, and see the same person in the same exact spot in the front row? It has to somewhat of a concern for the artists, No?

If I saw Jon Bon Jovi twice I figure that would be at least once too many.

He should change it to

"I've seen 999,768 different faces, and one kooky bitch 233 times,

...and I rocked them all"

We have a running joke that surely Bon Jovi has rocked more than a million faces by now.

Part of the deal with me and Beasties is that I always suspect it will be their last tour. And then they go and play a bunch of club dates, and it's a once in a lifetime thing, and how do you not try to hit a few of those shows when you've had to drive to see them in a sucky arena in the past? AHHHH. Plus it's fun to see a show with other fans who you know and like. (Out of my past 12 or so Beastie shows, only two were in arenas and only one was a festival.)

I saw the U2 3D IMAX concert movie a bunch of times this spring even though I'm not a big fan. I have never seen U2 more than once in a year in real life. But I met these fans in line at the movie that make our most avid Beastie fans look normal. They feel like they have a personal relationship with Bono or something. It was kind of scary really.

I'm not sure whether I could see Radiohead often enough to get tired of them.

Yea, its much to much. Theres a fine line between being obsessive and "being entertained".
