How do you like it? i just applied with the milwaukee fire department, and i was wanting to know what tips i might need to know?

I love it. I'm part of an industrail fire department for a company, so I'm not full time. I've learned everything "on the job" and reading versus going to an academy etc.
Some of the guys on the department are trying to get fulltime jobs and its tough. Fire Departments really grill you and are looking for a lot of things apparently. Its like trying to get into a good school and all of those extra clubs and groups you worked with afterschool pay off. They want someone very well rounded apparently. They can train you on how to use a ladder but your character is something you have to have when you come in.
Get as much training as you can, Fire 1, 2, EMT academy, etc.. Of course you would hire the better trained, right?
Go to stations and talk to the people there. Walk in with some cookies or food or something. Suck up. Do you have anyone in your family that might know a captain or officer who can go through a mock oral with you? That seems to help a lot of people, from what I've been told.
Keep the record clean and be honest. Yea, you smoked pot when you were 15 and haven't touched it since. If you are still drinking a lot, making bad choices, etc., don't even waste your time applying. DONT LIE. You lie and you can be black listed from every applying again.
