Here are the ones I most hear imitated, covered, revered, and otherwise kowtowed to. IMO, they all suck:

Tom Waits: Sorry dude, don't give a crap. Not only does he suck, not only do his songs bore me to tears, but anyone who has ever done a Tom Waits tribute album (including you Scarlet) is a total loser sheep who desperately wants street-cred from the indie crowd. "Ooh, he's so dark...his voice sounds like gravel...his lyrics are so...." Can't finish the last one because I've never read his lyrics and never will. You want dark? Listen to Smog. Bill Callahan over Waits' washed-up ass any day.

BJork: Find me someone who says they like every one of your songs and I'll show you a pretentious liar. Plainly put, no one has reached her level of worship or reverence with fewer memorable songs...hell, songs that people can listen to, period.

Arcade Fire: Still can't figure out why I'm supposed to believe the musical genius of this band. Boring and uninteresting.

Winehouse: Washed up whore without a single interesting song or idea. Basically copying motown sixties and not even doing it that well. When she sings live it sounds completely forced and fake. We had the sixties once, let's keep it that way crackhead.

Sonic Youth: Pretentious noise posing as art. There's a reason why they haven't achieved the level of commercial success that critics and hipsters think they deserve.

Radiohead: Preface: they were a good band up to Kid A. For some reason this band gets credit for abandoning what they were (possibly one of the greatest rock bands in history) to become what they are (incredibly whiny and boring electronica that despite what anyone says leaves the listener flat and wondering why they just listened to that crap). Why, I'll never know. When Jordan left basketball to become a piss-poor minor league baseball player, he didn't have millions of fans sucking up to him for "progressing" and "moving in a new direction." He rightly got panned for abandoning being the best basketball player in the world to become a terrible hack at baseball. Radiohead should get the same treatment and maybe, just maybe, Thom Yorke will stop loving his voice long enough to remember that they are best as a rock band.

Oasis - You wrote two decent songs...get over yourselves, ya Beatles' wannabe's. I personally blame them for Michael Hutchence offing himself.

Add yours...

I can name <5 Bjork songs. That said, I bet a lot of people off this board could give pretty much that same description about the Beastie Boys.
