I had my first bike accident in 2 years last night.
luckily I was only hit by another bike. I slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road, and up onto the sidewalk to stop so I would be out of the way of traffic to cross the street and dude must have been (stupidly) following directly behind me and not paying attention because he inexplicably crashed right into the back of me and totally bit the dust. when he got up off the ground, he was like, "sorry sorry, my fault! you okay?" and I laughed because I just popped off my bike without falling like he did, and said, "it's cool, low-impact crash, you alright?" he was very flustered.

anyway, I thought I was fine, but turns out there's a gash below the knobby part of my ankle and it's all swollen. it burned like a bitch in the shower and it's fill with grease or something that won't come out.

BORING.

tell better accident stories please.

2 years ago i was a bike messenger, one day i was in the traffic jam and was trying to passed between two car, one was parked, the other car was rolling. So the dude in the car rolling decide to squeeze me, maybe he did not see me, but i clearly look at him in his mirror before i was coming. Anyway, I ended up making a tumble over my bike and ''vlam'' on the asphalt. I fucked my knee pretty badly . Yea.. that was the beginning of the ending of my bike career.

I hear a horrible story about a bike messenger getting under a bus and then getting paraplegic..

A couple of months before graduating high school about 10pm I was helping a friend install an alarm system in his 73 Camaro, it was getting late and we had school the next day so we decided to head to my house and get some clothes, come back finish up and I would just go to school with him the next day.

His house and mine are separated by about 9 miles of two lane highway with no streetlights and only 2 bends. One bend you have to kinda slown down for the other not so much, or so my friend thought.

This friend ALWAYS drove fast and that night was no exception. As soon as we turned onto the long street he hit the gas, 80mph, 90mph, 100pmh, I watched the speedo climb. The car almost felt like it was floating, he slowed down for the slow down curve, and then sped back up, the last time I remembering looking at the speedometer, it said 130. The fast curve came up, and we didn't slow down, and as we hit the curve we started sliding into the other lane, and the car went into a spin. We spun back into our own lane, and into a telephone pole.

The telephone pole hit the driver's side door, we went through the pole, and kept going, we almost made it to the next telephone pole before we stopped.

Neither of us wearing seatbelts, the force of the hit threw my friend into the back seat behind me, when the car stopped I helped pull him out, and he kept complaining about his leg.

This is a very dark long road, and it was like 10 minutes before a car came by, and they wouldn't stop, neither did the next car, but about 15 minutes later, the police arrived, they had seen the transformer blow up from about 3 miles away, they said it looked like lightning and came to check out what had happened.

Ambulance came took us away, my friend had a broken femur, and I had glass in my head from breaking my window with it.

Police report said that the skid marks were 625 feet long, and estimated our speed at 127mph

Drove by a few days later, and the telephone pole we hit was about 6 feet shorter that the rest. Seems we just chopped out a six foot section at the bottom and the pole fell back to the ground, Skidmarks stayed visible there for about a year.

My parents had parked the CV2 up the hill while washing the carpets by the lake.
Us three girls sleeping in the back seat.
My kid sister (age 3) woke up, crawled to the front and unleashed the brake.
Car rolls down the hill towards a huge stone by the shore.
Dad runs to stop the car, but luckily (?) he was too far away. Car hits stone and ends upside down just by the shoreline.
Got our picture in the paper.

I got hit by a car when cycling to the library when I was 7.
The front wheel became an 8, but I only got shocked cause I lost my bling bling belt.
The driver drove me home...

Then once when driving home from grandparents my dad fell asleep at the wheel and we bumped onto a snowwall about one meter high,
car upside down in the snow and parents hanging on the safety belts, catlitter all over and the bike that had been on the roof had broken apart.
I was the only injured, got a scratch on my cheek.
That happened when I was about 9-10 yrs.

Slipped in the shower, banged my head in the corner, bounced back and hit the faucet with the back of my head.
Two fractures on C2. ½" and I'd been paralyzed or dead. Wore a halo vest for 10 weeks.
This was two weeks after I turned 40. Still can't turn my head properly.

Used to drive a red mini clubman.

Sped thru an orange light one day and t-boned a truck that turned in front of me. Hit it doing about 65-70km/h. (37-40mph). car spun around a few times before coming to a rest.

I remember waking up about 20 seconds later thinking 'what the fuck?' seeing about 4 dudes sprinting over to the car yelling 'call an ambulance!!!'

Anyway so I got out of the car, dusted myself down and said 'err... I think I'm fine! Nup, I'm fine.' and the guys just stared at me, stared at the wreck which was now the size of a big wheel and stared back at me as if they had seen a ghost.

I'd post a photo of the car if I had a scanner. Friends who saw the wrecked mini could not believe that I survived.

Years later, my mother went and saw a medium. I'm fairly skeptical of mediums but she asked my mother 'did your son used to drive a little red car?' Old lady said yes. "was he involved in a big accident??" Mum says yes. The medium said 'well your mother (my grandmother) is claiming responsibilty for that one. He was supposed to die in that crash but she stepped in and saved him'.

When mum told me over the phone I nearly fell over.

Not really an accident story... but I don't feel like making a new thread and this seemed like a semi-appropriate place for it.

Tonight I'm walking my dog (Max) after getting out of work. There's this one spot where he likes to do his business just around the corner from my apartment building leading up to a parking garage. So, we're chilling around the corner and Max is sniffing around trying to find a good spot to go. I'm also talking a friend on my cell phone...

Before I even know what's happening, there's this huge German shepherd lunging at Max (who is a small/medium sized dog... only about 20 or 25 lbs.), Max is yipping 'cause this dude is coming almost right at his throat for some reason, and then I notice a lady screaming too... her dog pulled her right off her damn feet and dragged her over to where we were. She was probably dragged 7 or 10 feet on cement... but she looks just shaken up.

Finally her dog listens to her about not attacking/chasing after Max and me. Max and I somehow escape unscathed and... well, I couldn't think of anything to do except walk away. I felt kind of bad 'cause this lady was obviously a little shaken up... but I can't rightly help her if her dog is going to go apeshit on my little dude. Besides, the dickhead part of my mind took over and said, "If she's going to have a dog that big then she needs to learn how to control it and be in control of it or either A) not take the dog outside where he might see other dogs or B) get rid of her dog so someone who can take care of him properly will do so.

Anyway, yeah. The more I think of it, the more this lady kind of pisses me off for not having her dog under control. There's my "accident" (but not really) story.

ouch! I rode my bike when it started to rain this morning and was going too fast and squeezed my front brake tighter than my back brake when coming to an intersection, fishtailed and wiped out in the street. my shoes popped off, that was pretty funny. I bent my pedal and my hand and elbow were bloodied. the worst part is I beat the shit out of my left shin and right knee. my shin looks disgusting, I've got a huge egg-sized lump under my knee, then a lump a few inches below that and another lump on my ankle bone. :( and I have to go to a wedding and wear a dress this weekend. everything's starting to turn blue green.

weird thing is, when I got to work, I found out that my coworker had gotten into a bike accident too. his was with a car that cut him off though, he couldn't stop in time on account of the rain. he fell off and then the car ran over his wheels. awful. and expensive repairs. he bonked his knee, nothing too bad. could've been way worse for both of us.

stupid rain.

I was hit by a bike many years ago, and it ruined my running career. Not that it was much of a career, but my injury never healed properly. :(

My brother has great accident stories. He shattered his own kidney last year. Lost all short term memory once. Yesterday, he gave himself a nasty stigmata-like injury when he fell off his bike.

i was coming home from work and just casually making my way back home. it was dark out so i was on the sidewalk and some jackass left their gate wide open. i wasn't really paying attention and since it was dark out i didn't notice the gate. i didn't even hit the gate but as soon as i noticed it i instinctually slammed on my breaks and went over my handlebars. and since i use these shoes that clip to my peddles it made it even more awkward. i had to try to keep myself from rolling into on coming traffic. i came away with a bit of roadrash, a deep gash on my shin, and embarrasment.

of all the shit i do on my bike i get taken out by a fucking frontyard gate.

the most memorable accident i had was when i was like 17 or 18. i was just riding through this nice neighborhood and a branch fell from a tree. SOMEHOW THE FUCKING BRANCH MADE IT RIGHT BETWEEN MY FUCKING SPOKES OF MY FRONT WHEEL. over the handlbars i went.
