i LOVE 'em! as long as they're done by someone that knows what their doing.

Blondie vs. The Doors - Rapture Riders is one of my all time favorites done the right way. I think it was actually produced by Blondie.

I agree, they're usually total shite and noise fodder for idiot club goers to shout out that they know who BOTH the artists are and that they've had it on white label for years.

I assume 99% of you here know of DJ Ztrip?? You should check out his website @www.djztrip.com and that should change your mind on mash-ups. Tons of free downloads. Especially check his Guns & Roses / Stevie Wonder mash-up...... GOLD!!!

I usually enjoy them. They're almost always eminently danceable which makes them lots o' fun.

Saw Girl Talk at the Cap Hill block party last Friday night. The crowd was insane. I had a good time but to me it seemed pretty standard mash up stuff, not earthshattering or anything. Danceable, fun.

I wouldnt consider what Girl Talk does to be mash ups. He basically layers so many different songs into one another that they basically become their own song.

I'm really keen on the general ideas of mash ups, remixes, mega mixes, turntablism, cover versions - anything goes - it all adds to the rich diversity of popular music and DJing culture.

I do find it really annoying when a mash up is basically a good idea but the 'masher' fucks up the placing of the vocal timing so that by the 2nd verse the timing is all out and sounding idiotic - or when they haven't understood the timing of the MC's flow and put the whole thing half a bar out or something stupid. I enjoy buying vinyl mash ups to throw in the mix but I'd highly recommend any DJs listen to the record all the way through before you buy, just in case it all goes awry towards the end of the track - I've heard too many bad examples and just don't understand why the person that made the mashed version can't hear what a fuck up they've made.

Otherwise - thanks to all the people that have provided links and recommendations - there's some interesting stuff to check out.

Check out Beastiemixes.com if you're not already familiar - there's loads of good stuff if you're into mash up type stuff.

I also find some mashes where the vocal or instrumental has been sped up or slowed down too much a bit annoying too.

In case anyone was wondering.

Have you ever had that penut butter jar that already has the grape jelly inside, or a ménage à trois?

Mash-up's rule!

I create really crappy ones that usally let down like this menage! (http://www.chowhound.com/photos/188202)

i've been listening to this mashup mix named "ritalin ruckus v2" by dj pantshead and the evolution control committiee

they mashup donna summer "i feel love" instrumental with black sabbath "war pigs" acappella and then on top of all that is "strawberry letter 23" by shuggie otis (or brothers johnson) and "eple" by röyksopp. all mixed to perfection.

it blew my mind! AMAZING!

heard one on Colin Murray on Radio one the other night. Klaxons' Golden Skans with vocal of Blondie's "Call Me" over the top. Surprisingly good.

I don't know who this Rumble B cat is, but he's got the right idea. Z-Trip and DJP released a mixtape that is basically only mashups (blends) and it's really good. They (Z-Trip and DJP) are kind of considered the fathers of the whole mashup movement thing... in a way. Although they aren't the creators.

You an download that aforementioned mixtape for free from Z-Trip's site or just by clicking right here (http://djztrip.unknownvariable.com/audio/Uneasy_Listening_Vol1_Pt1.mp3) (part 1), here (http://djztrip.unknownvariable.com/audio/Uneasy_Listening_Vol1_Pt2.mp3) (part 2), here (http://djztrip.unknownvariable.com/audio/Uneasy_Listening_Vol1_Pt3.mp3) (part 3), then here (http://djztrip.unknownvariable.com/audio/Uneasy_Listening_Vol1_Pt4.mp3) (part 4).

If you still don't like mashups after that... then maybe you're right and you just don't like 'em. Then we should all stop trying to convince you otherwise.

My fave is Smells like teen spirit vs Straigth outta Compton. The "more hit than miss" argument has merit, but it's the same as with all music. Like I keep most of my hip hop cds for just one track, while I don't give a rat's ass about the other 15.

(y) it gets better with each listen, i keep recognising different bits. I wasnt sure about the whole concept of girl talk but its really good. Its inspired me to start making mash ups again and given me some hints and i have tried different techniques and stuff. inspirational, although i havent heard anything else of his.
