I've loved chips and gravy since birth, it pisses me off how you can't get a proper portion of it in London.
I'm going to get some on my way home tonight. I've found an half decent chippy over here that doesn't cook it all in beef dripping. It's gross, because it makes everything taste of burgers.
I've never ordered it down there for a while but I know they didn't know what I meant when I asked for chips and peas.

hold on - i may have got wrong end of the stick here. Were you being sarky when you mentioned biscuits? Or were you thinking of crisps and not fries. I am all confused.

EEEEEEEEUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHH!
thats a waste of mint sauce is that
Mushy peas just looks like a big fuck off pile of bogeys and phlegm (sp?) . I know thats childish but i have never been able to shake that thought off whenever i see some. Sloppy peas is a better description though

I tell you what else i like that makes people have that reaction: chips and tomato SOUP! Together. With lots of bread to soak up the soup.
That's comfort food right there.

Thats brought it all back!Picture the scene, i was 6 years old and thats when tea had to be finished and i had some veggie soup and chips and it was minging and i was stalling and stalling and it was going colder and colder. I was trying to casually tip it off the table and my mum just gave me the stare as i tried to finish this cold vomit i was looking at. I was fucking starving as well but i just couldnt eat it. *shivers*

You're confused because you are thinking of English biscuits, not American biscuits.
I can't help but feel we've been down this road before...

I have never had mushy peas or gravy with my chips. Cheese is ok but I don't think I have had it since uni. I am just quite old school - salt and vinegar does the job.
I keep getting cravings for lamb chops, mash and gravy.

i hate mushy peas. yack.
i'm getting cravings for lamb lately, too, with mint sauce. it's a meat i have never, ever cooked at home by myself. it's something my mum would normally only cook for easter or something as a roast and, goddamn, i miss it.
fuck me i want a lamb roast dinner so bad right now.
The mint sauce with peas malarky must be a yorkshire thing, I've been asked it a few times since moving over here.
Mint sauce is for Lamb and Lamb only!

chips and cheese, motherfuckers.
Or "Cheesy Chips" as they are correctly known. My local pub serves them, me and my mates have been known to substitute many a meal with a plate of Cheesy Chips at the Berry. Bang bang. (y)

heh, i am pleased it is enjoyed by the masses down south, too.
everyone knows i am also a fan of mayonnaise with my chips.
the curious thing about the rivalry between glasgow and edinburgh is that is extends to condiment choice, too.
in glasgow we favour chips and cheese.
in edinburgh they favour "salt and sauce". the sauce is sort of a weird watered-down mixture between vinegar and brown sauce.
buncha crazies.
Chips and mayo is lovely, I love mayo with pizzas too.
I remember having the best chips and mayo in Belgium a few years back. It was pretty much the only happy memory I have of that trip.
That vinegar and brown sauce mix sounds wrong. Yak.

i know that chips are fries, but i have NO idea what "gravy" is to you guys. when i think of fries, the only thing that sounds good on them are chili, cheese, or ketchup.
this is biscuits and gravy to me. i actually had some last night with fake sausage! it was SOOOOO yummy. :

also, peas of any kind are disgusting and thinking of them being mushy kinda makes me not want to eat brekkers right now.
the fact you call it 'brekkers' makes me not want to eat breakfast anymore.

haha, i knew photographing my food for the what's for tea thread would be useful in the future for referencing things. honest.
hellmans did a sauce called "saucy chip dip" for a while that was sort of a mayonnaise meets mustard meets.. other curious things. was tasty.

it goes for both!!
Salad Cream is terrible. Imagine spreading something so powerful tasting over something as delicate tasting as salad. I assume salad cream is for people who want to eat salad but don't like the taste.

Chips and cheese - Yes. yes. yes.
Any form of sandwich spread - they all smell and make me want to dry heave.
