Are the Beastie Boys as geeky as they seem?

I've been here only a few months, but it is fairly obvious that you all are a bunch of nerds. So when the Beastie Boys are dressing like Star Trek people, and make obscure geek culture references, is it because they are really are into that stuff, or are they just giving their fans what they want?

Me, I think they sold out to please their fans. I think they would rather be rapping going to strip clubs and bangin' ho's like other rappers, but they would lose their fan base if they did.

Nah, I'm pretty sure they're just your typical priveleged middle class kids who have slowly turned into their parents. I don't think anyone would even describe them as "rappers" anymore, they're just some regular nerdy middle-aged men who happen to make music.

Personally i wouldn't consider myself nerdy-i'm way too stupid for that-or just not knowledgable enough(there's a difference!). I don't think the beasties are really either-i'm here purely 'cause i love 'em and whilst i don't have time to learn every word of every rhyme and own everything ever put down-be it audio or video-i just like checking in with fellow beastie boys n girls!!

as to whether they've sold out or not-couldn't really give a fuck. they're still cool in my eyes and still making music i love.
