What's your favorite Cusack performance?

Ooooh tricky. I plumped for Grosse Point Blank but The Sure Thing is right up there too.

it allowed me to pick two, so I did.

Solved a minor crisis.

Even though he obviously plays the same character usually, I like to think of Rob in High Fidelity as Lane in Better Off Dead in his 30s. It just seems like exactly what Lane would turn into after the French girl moved home and they said they'd stay together and soon enough he found out she shacked up with some French hottie.

Anyway, I can't decide between those two movies. They're both just so good!

I think the term "Sophie's choice" will have to be renamed "RobMoney'$ choice" since this is worse. Maybe, I dunno, buts it close, I gotta think about that.

You've missed American sweethearts, or did you leave it out by choice?

I've only seen half of those, and even tho I've got both Better off (bought it in VHS in a charity shop in London almost a year ago)
and Midnight... (on DVD, but just bought my first DVD player yesterday!) still haven't seen them...

Have to go with High Fidelity first. A brave, very true performance.

Say Anything would probably be next.

I used to like him -- but now I really don't. I used to think he was a great actor who happened to be in mediocre movies, but given the complete track record I can't do that anymore. He tends to be in movies like High Fidelity, where parts of the movie work really well, but overall I don't like the movie. And he's usually playing the same guy so I guess I have to assume he only plays himself?

Anyhow, I remember sort of liking 8 Men Out but I don't remember any one actor (my opinion should be discounted because I'm a sucker for Sayles movies). I liked the Grifters so I probably have to go with that.

It's funny that I can't visualize Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, even though I know I saw the movie and I also read the book.

I haven't read the book, but the movie is really forgettable.

I was also gonna say Say Anything and High Fidelity. Do you really mean those, a-z, or are you being facetious.

No, I'm serious.

Actually, yeah... The Grifters needs to be in there, too. Those are probably his top three, unless Must Love Dogs was any good... :D

I haven't seen Grace is Gone, though, either. That was his big Oscar bid, though, so I dunno....

Grosse Pointe Blank is my all time favorite movie and fav cusak role. High fidelity is probably 2nd. Say anything, 3rd.

I haven't really like anything he's done recently though.

How could I forget that one? Also a personal fav.

Incidentally, there is a DJ at a club around here who looks exactly like John Cusak. (y)

I picked Sixteen Candles because he is young and cute and has good comic timing in the 4 or so minutes of screen time he gets. (just watched it last friday).

otherwise, I think I like the idea of john cusack more than john cusack.

he's got a tiny background part in the movie Class, with andrew mccarthy and rob lowe. he is cute in that too. and that movie rules.

Say Anything was probably his best performance but I feel bad saying it because it means that he peaked really young.

High Fidelity, like Forrest Gump, is one of those movies that I will never understand. People who otherwise seem to have good taste really love it, and I loved a few scenes from it, but man I didn't like it overall, and it floors me that people think that movie is a classic. I fucking hated Forrest Gump.

Forrest Gump was pretty bad. High Fidelity was pretty great.

What's the problem?
