i stole the beastie's idea! so g'awn everybody! post those songs that bring you back to the kiddy years... even if they might be embarrassing.

i was 9-11 years old when i listened to most of these songs...

stone temple pilots - big bang baby (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BA7ThYHkyiU) (listened to it almost everyday. i still love it.)

war - low rider (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyBhAglWZ9Q&feature=related) (my dad had this cassette and i would always ask him to play it in his mustang)

white zombie - thunder kiss '65 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VELvq-faGk) (listened to it everyday also. it was catchy and just right amount of hard rock i needed. it was the first cd i accidently broke.)

green day - basket case (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a73Y40Qqodo) (oh god! just a tad bit embarrassing... but i LOVED this and walking contradiction (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPYKZCVRBBk)... i guess i still kinda like it. i still remember all the words)

van halen - you really got me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YRqkRmRocQ) (i guess at age 10 i was too ignorant to know who the kinks were... thanks dad for the crappy lesson in rock)

pour some sugar on me - def leppard (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSaAXDBvfho) (my mom told me i would stand up and sing along to this song on mtv when i was only 1 year old)

around 11-13 i started to listen to the shittest music ever. nu metal-ish crap like korn (puke! totally fucking gross) and then i got into pop punk and crappy skapunk like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYHUrWMH9v0&feature=related). i don't know what the hell was wrong with me... but then one day i came across this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaE11LkBz0U) and i finally started to see the light. then around 14-16 it was nothing but 70's and 80's punk.

LOL the thing was that there were so many different kinds of records up there in my room. My dad left when i was very young and left a lot of records and my mum and step dad had a load as weel. And then i just got into getting records any way i could and thought all records were great - i had no selection policy if it was on record i would listen to it. So as a result i listened to all kinds.. like:

Lonnie Donegan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Olf7Ibtg1lM)

Sugar minott (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TY1aHUMy4A)

Ian Dury (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq4NZEtNTAo)

My mom would lullaby me to Seals and Crofts~King of Nothing

Years of therapy later I learned that I need years of therapy

Actually: That's not a big thing here and I'd like to get into that line of work. Listen to someones problems, have a pen hit your pad and nod yes in agreement while wearing a white authoritative coat. Once in a while say "But what are you really trying to say?" and then send them to the cashier errr, I mean the receptionist.

Bust a move, bust a move.

Man, I wish In had sound here. Maybe. :D

Crazy Horses was my very first 8-track, I do believe. That was their "heavy metal" album.

Man, I'm a-gettin' elderly.

I never realized that until I saw the video and that girl singing looked like she had been doing marathon style rails that would rival the wildest days of George Jung

i remember watching the gig he did where one of the guys (sam?) from the shuttle that exploded was supposed to be doing a live link from space playing sax. really fucking sad-one of those memories that really sticks. sorting link-it's really not that exciting tho!

and come on.....i told now you tell!

but pet shop boys are super rad compared to the lame 90's alternative single i owned.

the music video has a guy with blonde hair (lead singer) and it's a slow song about him feeling guilty about abortion/suicide of a loved one. that's the only info i will give. :o

i had shitty taste in music. i didn't know there was music that wasn't on mtv or mainstream radio until i was 15.

ok-i'm thinking Nirvana? can't think of song about that tho...

if it is i think that's completely cool!

whatever it is you needn't be so ashamed-it's good to see how much we change

When I was v. young 5,6,7 years old, my dad used to listen to "Sounds of the Sixties" every Saturday morning on Radio 2 so I've always associated that with waking up on a Saturday morning with nothing to do. He had some old Beatles tapes - one which was some kind of bootleg of the White Album with some tracks missing. I used to listen to that a lot - the songs that stuck with me when I was that young were the simple ones like Bungalow Bill, Don't Pass Me By. Listening to those takes me straight back to being a wee one. My Dad also had big double 12" of Elvis singles which I used to love putting on. Other than that he mostly listened to classical music.

Of course when it came to buying my own music my tastes suffered somewhat. The first CD I bought was Now That's what I call Music 34. I must have been about 10. Basically all the chart hits of the day. A few years later and I was buying rap.

The record of my dad's that i would listen to a lot was Motown Gold and my mum had the red and blue beatles collections-used to listen to them a lot-can remember loving Blackbird and The fool on the Hill and A day in the life.

For some reason the latest Oasis video takes me back to being a kid. Not sure if it's coz of the Lennony-ness of the song. was ten when he was shot and was devastated. The family to the back of us were called the Chapmans-even tho i knew there was no Mark Chapman there i still felt a bit bitter towards them!
