Morgan Freeman is reportedly in serious condition at a Memphis hospital.
According to early press reports, Freeman's car was involved in an accident around 11:30 Sunday night, just north of Ruleville, Miss.
Freeman was airlifted from the crash scene to a hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Kathy Stringer says Freeman is in serious condition.
The condition of female pssenger in the car is not known.
Ashley Norris, manager of the Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale that is owned by Freeman, confirmed the actor was in a wreck. Norris said she had no other details.
Freeman and his wife Myrna live near Charleston, Miss., on a 126-acre ranch. The actor built the ranch on land his grandparents worked, and it is also where he spent much of his childhood.
Freeman, 71, currently stars as Wayne Enterprises CEO Lucius Fox in the "Batman Begins" sequel "The Dark Knight."
Freeman won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for "Million Dollar Baby" in 2005.
His other credits include such films as "The Shawshank Redemption," "Driving Miss Daisy," "Unforgiven" and "Street Smart," which earned the actor his first Oscar nomination.
While he's best known for his movie roles, Freeman has had a lengthy career in television. He appeared in the PBS series "The Electric Company' from 1971-1977. He made several appearances on the daytime soaps "Ryan's Hope" and "Another World" and played Frederick Douglass in the 2003 miniseries "Freedom: The History Of Us." He is also a frequent narrator for television documentaries. He recently finished work on the upcoming special "For Love of Liberty: The Story of America's Black Patriots."

Some updated news:
“They had to use the jaws of life to extract him from the vehicle,” McFerrin said. “He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point.”
McFerrin said bystanders converged on the scene trying to get a glimpse of the actor.
When one person tried to snap a photo with a cell phone camera, Freeman joked, “no freebies, no freebies,” McFerrin said.

I'd rather it be Michael Caine.
Sort of morbid people are joking about someone close to dying in this thread, but whatever.

He's fine (http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5j4Iu7-kgr-Ms6xBxu-KBzEgR9aQg)
MEMPHIS, Tennessee (AFP) — Oscar-winning movie actor Morgan Freeman suffered multiple broken bones, but escaped with his life following a serious one-car crash, his representative said.
Freeman was in "good spirits" and confident of making a full recovery after the crash left him with multiple broken bones, his spokeswoman Donna Lee said. Monday
The 71-year-old star, who won an Academy Award for his role in 2004's "Million Dollar Baby," was being treated in hospital in Memphis following the single vehicle accident late Sunday near Ruleville, Mississippi.
Lee told AFP in a statement that Freeman had suffered a "broken arm, elbow and minor shoulder damage" but was talking and in "good spirits" when she spoke to the actor earlier Monday.
"He is having a little bit of surgery this afternoon or tomorrow to help correct the damage," she said. "He says he'll be OK and is looking forward to a full recovery."
A spokesman at the Memphis Regional Medical Center treating Freeman earlier said the actor was in a "serious" condition. The condition of a female passenger traveling with the actor was unknown.
"Mr. Freeman is listed in serious condition but we have no information on the condition of his passenger," hospital spokeswoman Kathy Stringer told AFP.
Freeman, who is currently starring in Batman blockbuster "The Dark Knight" was hospitalized after the car he was driving went off the road and flipped several times reports said, citing the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Freeman and his passenger were airlifted to hospital.
Freeman was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima belonging to Demaris Meyer of Memphis, Tennessee, who is a close friend of Freeman's wife, Myrna. Both were wearing seat belts and police said no drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident, said TMZ.com.
The editor of the Sun-Sentinel daily of Charleston, Mississippi, who was at the scene of the accident said Freeman "was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point."

From CNN:
MEMPHIS, Tennessee (AP) -- Morgan Freeman is doing well after surgery to reconnect nerves and repair damage to his left arm and hand
after rescuers used a jaws-of-life machine to free him and a passenger from the wreckage of his car, his publicist said Tuesday.
Freeman, 71, and Demaris Meyer, 48, of Memphis, Tennessee, were taken to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis following the Sunday
night accident on a dark stretch of rural Mississippi Delta highway in Tallahatchie County.
State troopers said the car careened off the highway and flipped end-over-end before landing upright in a ditch.
The surgery Monday night "lasted approximately four and a half hours including recovery and he is in good spirits and was visiting family
members this morning," Donna Lee, the Oscar-winning actor's publicist, said in a statement.
"He was walking this A.M., and is looking forward to his release as soon as possible," Lee said.
Freeman was airlifted about 90 miles to the Regional Medical Center where he was treated for a broken arm, broken elbow and shoulder
damage, Lee said.
