I kind of think the crazies on a Greyhound bus are part of the appeal. Not that I want to see someone get murdered and decapitated... but leave the crazies alone and forget the security nonsense.
Unless this starts to become a weekly thing, where someone new is murdered on another Greyhound, I think this is an isolated incident. So bring on the crazies!
i posted twice somehow????

i'm not even sure if it could have been. it seems like nobody noticed what was going on until he already had the knife in him. as terrible a thing as this was, i'm not sure that bus cops are going to be much help

no, but that nutcase should never have been allowed on a bus with a hunting knife in the first place.

consider the number of greyhound riders that are NOT murdered on a daily basis.
At best, a cop or security guard could have maybe disarmed the assailant in the first 5 seconds of his rampage so the kid would instead die from massive hemorrhaging and bleeding out i.e. a longer more painful death.

Maybe the nutcase shouldn't be aloud a hunting knife in the first place. Make that petition

apparently one of their now old advertisements was "There's a reason you've never heard of bus rage."

They also use to advertise..."Buses, we won't search you!"

Dude have you ever been to a Bus station? They aren't exactly nice. You think they can afford any kind of high tech security?

It would be impractical to search every person travelling on a bus. You'd have to wait in line for hours just to get on the bloody thing because everyone in the queue would be forced to go through a thorough bag search, and if Greyhound or any other bus company did employ anything like that they'd probably have to do it a) at random or b) quickly, in order to get everyone to their destinations within a reasonable timescale. Either way, they'd be more than likely to miss any knife-wielding psychos in the queue.
I'm in agreement with faz - restricting the sale of OTT knives with rusty serrated edges is a far wiser idea. Banning all knives wouldn't work - because otherwise nobody could ever go to IKEA to pick up a new set of cutlery without being pulled over and sent to prison for carrying a knife (or several!). Yup, the best thing you can do is ban hunting knives and limit their sale to adults (this topic is rife in the UK because of a spate of lethal knifings that have been highlighted in our media recently). Ultimately, you will never stop incidents like this, just like you will never stop suicide bombings or mass shootings from happening. 95.5% of the world's population has violent tendencies (76.3% of people know this) and some of those people are barely human. A nut-job without a hunting knife will just use a spoon to gouge someone's eyes out, or a razor to slit someone's wrists, and we can't ban everything now, can we?
The best thing to do is accept it for the fucked up situation it is and try not to live the rest of your life looking over your shoulder in fear, or you'll never enjoy yourself. I feel so sorry for the guy who got brutally murdered, his family, and the poor people who had to witness it, who will live with those images for the rest of their lives, and I'm sure the guy who committed the heinous crime in question will get what's coming to him (the rest of his life in a padded one foot square cell, most likely). In the end though, horrible murders are a fact of life - and life tends to blow very hard at times :/

well, i wasn't saying everyone had to agree, but it's just something that i feel strongly about. i feel terrible for that guy, what he went through, what his family and friends are now going through..just felt the need to do something. it just doesn't seem right.

I've mentioned tightening bus security.
Having a security officer in plain clothes to supervise wouldn't hurt anything. I do believe that searching luggage prior to boarding the bus would be a pain in the ass and I don't think I'd want to ride the bus if those types of measures happen.

would you have started a petition if it happened on a greyhound, in say... Detroit?

I agree with you on that but knives like guns are easily accessable to anyone who wants one bad enough. Knives even more easy of course.
A security officer on board of the bus with a taser couldn't have prevented the guy's death but he could have prevented the suspect from going after another victim if everyone didn't get off the bus.

most likely...things like this stuff don't normally happen here. i really don't know what the big deal is...if you don't agree with it,and i'm not saying that anyone has to, then don't sign it..it's just that simple.
i'm just saying that it's something that i want..and i thought that maybe someone else on here might feel this way, as well. i just don't want to hear of something like this happen again, and thought i would speak my mind on this.
and no, this may not have happened in detroit, but it happened here, where i live. it's obviously gonna affect me and everyone else who lives here.

meh... isolated incident. no need to overhaul the system...
think about every city that has a public bus system or subway/light rail.
crazy shit is bound to happen, but what is up with violence on greyhounds in Canada?
