It doesn't have to be anything that's necessarily scary, but what were some movie moments that scared you back in the day?
This bit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mypa-rmn5GE&feature=related&fmt=18) was always a little bizarre to me. Something about the kid changing and yelling freaked me out a little.

seriously, return to oz still scares the crap out of me.
but how about WHEN THE HORSE FUCKING DROWNS IN THE NEVERENDING STORY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y688upqmRXo&feature=related)? how the hell is that not disturbing for a little kid? jesus christ, mum! the big pink dragon thing is scary enough but yeeeeesh.
also the helping hands in labyrinth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsyhQvkXdZY).
Pretty much all of a Nightmare on Elm Street. I watched it when I was 9 or 10 at a holiday whilst on a school trip.

i think it was like The Care Bears Battle Professor Cold Heart and he froze their city and made them void of love. i mean that was really scary thinking the care bears couldn't love anymore!

A lot of people that are the age of the boardmembers here list Neverending Story and Return to Oz as scaring them in some way when I ask.
also, the evil things in the dark crystal.
Someone mentioned this too. Kind of makes me want to watch the movie.
Did they really scare you? (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/15/Skeksis-duel.jpg) :)

The flying monkeys in Wizard of Oz.
A few years later, it was the hand from the grave at the very end of Carrie, but that didn't last nearly as long.

The TV movie Sybil. I watched it without my mom knowing.
In a flashback to explain why Sally Field's character developed multiple personalities,
you see Sybil's mom hang her up or something and then give her an enima of ice cold
water and she has to hold it in. As a kid, I didn't understand what the fuck her mom was
doing, but I knew it was the big reveal to what caused her to go nuts. It was scarier
because I didn't understand it. I also saw Helter Skelter at about the same time when my
mom didn't want me to, but it wasn't anywhere near as disturbing.
P.S. I'm watching Alien right now!

it's from Stephen King's "Pet Semetary"
cheesy as it maybe, I love that film (though the book is much better of course)...which reminds me that I need to go home and see if my ex took that DVD with him. it was suppose to be mine!...but I guess he can have it...I'm not really about to get into a squabble over it.

I'd never seen those wheelies before but i'm pretty sure they would have terrified a young and impressionable me!
Couldn't look out of my window at night for freakin months after watching this Salems lot scary window bit (http://youtube.com/watch?v=eC5HZzjjl9Y&feature=related)
Also, didn't actually watch it myself for years but at Junior school this kid told me he'd watched Poltergeist and that it was all true and if you said the word "poltergeist" or even thought it, then you'd get one in your house! So scaredy little gullible me spent weeks trying to train my brain into not thinking that word! Bastardo
A friend of mine saw the one with the doll(or whatever it was)under the bed(poltergeist 2 maybe) so many times at the cinema he'd wait until the kid looks over the first time, then scream really loud and freak the shit out of the rest of the audience. then just as they'd chilled a bit the real scary bit would happen! double whammy! but a bit evil.
The girl behind the radiator in Eraserhead DID MY TINY MIND IN-but what fucked me up the worst was the bit with the chicken coming to life and the legs going up and down and spewing out black shit-blood i guess but it was black and white!! I felt like asking my dad-WHY ARE YOU LETTING ME WATCH THIS????

The bunny scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcxKIJTb3Hg) in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
I'm glad I was old enough to "get it."
Funny enough, I saw this in a theater once in re-release, and some guy a couple rows in front of me did have a child with him. When the
hand grenade was thrown and exploded, the crowd was actually kind of quiet, and then this little boy's voice pierced through the
dialogue onscreen:
"What happened to the bunny!?"
There were some chuckles in the audience which were pretty politely stuffled.

Well, the wheelies from Return to Oz scared the absolute shit out of me too. All their yelling and wheeling around. When one of them went into the sand that ... turned you into sand, that was even worse.
I never really understood death until Optimus Prime took it. It didn't freak me out, but it affected me, that's for sure.
