Really I should be job hunting

...but instead yesterday I watched the cricket at the Oval, England vs. SA. England won. Hooray. And the rest of the time I've been watching the Olympics non-stop - I have a couple of old school, university and club mates competing.

So back to the job... what shall I do? If the bets I put on the Olympics come off then I won't need to work for another year or so but that's a bit unlikeley. I reckon I could be a good writer of sorts but I am not qualified, merely skilled - which doesn't count for much, people want qualifications and experience not just lazy talent.

What field are you writing in? Sports, news, current events, music?

Maybe contact your local free press if you have any near by and see what they might have open for freelance. You might be able to parlay that into a regular gig down the road yet keeps your options open (more free time to watch cricket and bet on the olympics)

Hell, I'd write a piece on the juxtoposition of being unemployed and sitting in pubs nervosly awaiting the results of the gymnastics events like it was a big football match.

At least over here, the indie press would eat that shit up with a spoon.
