That's pretty cool. This seems like the sort of thing that the library of congress ought to be doing.

I don't think he's in any copyright trouble, I believe the copyrights for songs that old have expired by now. It wasn't until later in the century that they changed the longevity of copyrights to keep songs from becoming public domain.
