Yeah, I know we've already got a couple other Tropic Thunder threads, but I like the graph of how people rate it.
I see it in a little over two hours. The sense I get is that it's funny, but not as hugely, greatly funny as the early hype says.
Anyway, should be fun.
Let me know what you guys think.

decent movie, with a lot of adult humor. wasn't the greatest movie ever or anything, but certainly had some great hilarious moments.
worth seeing, but not something i'd say you have to see right away. definitely a good party rental

You didn't want to rate it?
I got my ticket at lunch so I don't have to stand in line, if there is one.
25 minutes.

Eh. It was all right. Couple of chuckles. I don't understand what the cartwheels are about -- it's really really predictable.
6.5/10.

The numbers on the poll should be replaced with quotes from the film.

i couldn't give it a rating because i don't really know what to base it on. i don't really like rating things, but i will recommend things when i deem them worthy. this fell in my middle range of things, so i guess if i had to give it a number, 6ish would probably be where i would go.
and i thought tom cruise's role was the best one in the movie

I didn't really care for Tom Cruise, actually. I don't know, the dancing wasn't even funny. For me it was Downey and pretty much Downey.

yeah Downey Jr. was hands down(ey) the best part of this movie
They got sooooooo wrapped up in the plot, shoving as many character arcs in as possible that soon it overan the comedy aspect. And they think just throwing Tom Cruise in doing wacky shit makes up for it. JB's character was completely useless, etc.etc. No doubt I laughed at it but I was over it as soon as I left the theater. Any parts making fun of Hollywood were great but then when it started becoming just another Hollywood movie..blah.

Yeah, I though the Tom Cruise stuff was pretty lame, stereotypical blah blah blah.
Downey, Jr. was really good. Who I really thought was good was Jay Baruchel (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0059431/), the guy from
Freaks and Geeks and just about everything else Apatow has produced. Best acting in the whole movie,
and a fairly thankless role.
I've always liked him before, but this was the first time I thought he really did a Grade A bit of acting.

Actually, the biggest surprise was McConaughey; I didn't read anything about him being in the film (nor thought he actually play a part of it). But seriously though, every actor did their part to make the experience Thunderously Radd.
Oh and update in the sig.

There was no need for that. At all.

i liked it. made us laugh a lot. it felt good to be in a theater with no kids. the opening movie trailers were just too damn funny. had me rolling before the movie even started.
also, there were some other loud laughers in the audience sitting pretty far away from us so sometimes they would laugh and it would crack me up and then they would laugh at my laughing. jeez that was too fun!

i think that's what made the dancing scenes so funny. if had been some schmo, it wouldn't have been NEARLY as funny. seeing cruise make an idiot of himself was just awesome.

That's what kills me though. of course it had to be someone well known to pull it off. But at this point Cruise is such a fucking dickhead, it seemed to me that to give him more than 5 minutes of screentime was just fellating his ego. on top of not being funny. Sure it was a chuckle for a second. But there's only so long "lol tom cruise in a fat suit dancin to hip hop" can last. That kind of shit runs along the lines of Epic Movie and those types of films, to me.

well i hardly ever see comedies in the theater so i went with the idea that it was gonna be funny and i was gonna laugh. i didn't think about what actor is an asshole or what hollywood things played into it... i just wanted to laugh hard and that i did. :)

Hey BBboy20-
Shouldn't your signature read:
"I'm a lead farmer, muthafucker!"?
Thats sure what I was shouting for like 3 hours after I saw it

This is exactly how I felt. I also agree with what you said earlier. This is maybe the second movie I've seen this year (if you don't count the multiple times I saw the U2 movie). I had heard a little about it, I knew there were cameos. I expected it to be sort of okay because I'm a little tired of Ben Stiller and I don't like Jack Black except in extremely small doses.
Then those trailers started and I was taking a sip of my drink when the Robert Downey Junior/Tobe Maguire trailer started. When they got to the part where they mention that Tobe Maguire won MTV's best kiss and they said that the movie won the crying monkey award or something like that, I laughed and my drink ended up all down the front of my shirt.
I pretty much laughed until I hurt, and my friend and I were still laughing all the way to the car and the next day. I don't rate movies with numbers but it was the funniest movie I've seen so far this year including rentals. It helped to see it with a friend who has a sense of humor and who isn't snobby I guess. :p

I think you could make an agrument that the movie peaked right then and there. That one was beautiful.

Saw this movie today and you can count me in as the dude who went as the dude that watched the dude playing the dude and this dude laughed his ass off.
Take your pick (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0942385/quotes), these writers have excellent dope.
Now I want you to take a step back... and literally fuck your own face!

well, I watched it. I'm gonna go ahead and quote myself as I was leaving the room to get a drink of water, "this movie is half awesome, half retarded".
I rate it a 6. because after the whole thing was over I thought it was 60% awesome. I would have liked it a lot better if ben stiller wasn't in it. he's too hammy, everyone else seemed to play their parts more realistically...even jack black, sort of. at least he seemed like an actual character. ben stiller just came off like zoolander in the jungle.
I agree with dandy and az's assessments, and I enjoyed the secondary characters quite a bit, but overall I thought it was just too full of...stuff. no substance.
(and tom cruise made me laugh a bit, but he mostly made me feel uncomfortable)
