You'd rate Modern Guilt that highly? I think it's dire.

I don't know what's happened to Beck. The albums he's currently churning out are terrible. Guero, The Information and now Modern Guilt seem rushed, turgid and uninspired. Bring back the days of Odelay! so we can all be happy.

I thought Modern Guilt was fantastic. Tracks 1-5 are just back to back masterpieces, 6-9 are very good, then "Volcano" comes in at number 10 and ends it all on a great note. Upon first listen MG really didn't get me, but after a couple more I saw it's goodness (y)

Guero was most ill, The Information had some good tracks but was quite bloated.

Testament ~ The Formation of Damnation 10/10

And here's a little background story: The lead vocalist, Chuck Billy, had a bought with the Big C. 5 Years later: He not only beat it but he dressed it up like a bitch and made it his schoolgirl

There is NO WAY in Hell that You Can Tell Me that 2:15 into the song TFoD that you don't want to smash things and call up anyone you Hate and tell them just that...But, maybe, that's just me. I tend to get a bit passionate about my music

I love Feeder too, so much so that I've had the piss ripped out of me on here more times than I care to mention, but Silent Cry is pretty awful. 2 or 3 above average songs, nothing more. I hope they go back to their metal/rock sound from 10 years ago, but to be honest, I think I'll be hoping forever.

I recently bought a truckload of CDs, some of which I'll detail below:

Primal Scream - Beautiful Future 2/5
MGMT - Oracular Spectacular 3/5
The Music - Strength in Numbers 3/5
The Sunshine Underground - Raise the Alarm 4/5

And I'm listening to The Bake Sale by 'Cool Kids'. Not sure what to make of it just yet though.

i only heard one album (mellow gold) with one listen by beck... so i guess my expectations wern't as high as some people. i thought modern guilt was really great myself. chemtrails (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VmAQqi3OJc) is a BEAUTIFUL song.

i think that happens to a lot of fans of bands. they expect them to make another paul's boutique... or they expect another odelay... but the artist is always changing... it's hard to accept sometimes... but it's inevitable. it would be boring if they just kept trying to re-create one certain sound over and over. i think i am this way with the beastie boys... i just really find it hard to hear a song like "song for the man" which has so many hip influences like late 60's euro psych (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YotwUmI0yJo) and then wait 6 years to get a bland, rushed, plain old hip hop song like check it out. it was a real disappointment.... maybe if i wasn't such a big fan stuff like that wouldn't have disappointed me... but whatever... i don't care any more. i was just using that as an example.

Beirut - Flying Club Cup 8/10

I'd go as far as giving Pacific Ocean Blue a 10. I agree that the album itself in its original released form was probably more of a 9 or 9.5, but the packaging and the extra tracks easily give the reissue that extra 1 or 0.5 in value.

Herbie Hancock - Headhunters 9/10
Thelonius Monk - Alone In San Francisco 9.5/10
Gilberto Gil - Gil E Jorge 10/10
Antonio Carlos Jobim - Tide 8/10

MGMT - oracular spectacular

i haven't heard it enough to properly rate it. i instantly loved a few songs and that's always a good sign. usually takes a few listens for something new to grow on me. it took me over a year after buying suicide's self titled to realize that it's fucking brilliant.

The Cribs - The New Fellas

bought it last week at it festival because they played there.
I likes it loads. Ryan Jarman is a bit of a weirdie, but the songs are catchy as fook and they get me singing along with all the 'whoo-oohs' and 'aaahs'.
Yup very nice indeed. But hey, the guy invented live 8, so he's obviously a genius.

Kids Soundtrack - 9/10
http://www.amazon.com/Kids-1995-Film-Folk-Implosion/dp/B000001FIO
Beautiful music from the controversial film I never saw. Folk Implosion songs make up most of the soundtrack, along with two versions of the same Daniel Johnston song and a recycled Sebadoh tune. Could have done without the Slint track.

Sonic Youth - Experimental, Jet Set, Trash, and No Star - 6/10
http://www.amazon.com/Experimental-Jet-Set-Trash-Star/dp/B000003TB0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1222331271&sr=1-1
Some really great songs in there, with catchy guitar hooks (Androgynous Mind) and propulsive rhythms (Screaming Skull), and the band works well in slow-burn mode (Self-Obsessed and Sexxee, Bull In The Heather), but the disc is too cluttered with stuff that seems like B-sides, like Winner's Blues and Skink, and one song that I out and out hate (Quest For The Cup). Overall, not the worst album by one of my favorite bands, but nowhere near the best.

Yeah, from what I understand, its 13 year olds having sex and getting aids.

The songs are more like this, though (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYerwwTV5qc).
