Each day it sounds more and more like the US was involved in this.

Last night on Chicago NPR Worldview broadcasted a story talkign about how US forces were training and supplying arms to the very military unit that went into Ossetia, one month prior to the conflict.

Two days ago, Reuters reported that the Georgian government stated that the US was going to secure the airports and roads of Georgia, then immediately thereafter the pentagon issued a statement in total denial of this.

Sounds like the US, in conjunction with this whole NATO affair gave false promises to Georgia, implying that Georgia would be under US protection (and already supplied with Israeli and US weapons) should they invade.

Consider that this started on the opening day of the olympics. When the world is suppoed to be together and in celebration...

The US knew Russia's response was going to be brutal and massive. Russia knew that the US has long been supporting and training Georgian military.

Now...

The US wants war with Iran. Russia has been supplying and arming Iran. Conflict with Iran probably means conflict with Russia. How do we get the world to hate Russia, which would demonify the Russian aspect to this whole Iran/US bullshit? Get them to invade Georgia and flex their military muscle during the olympics. Provolk them using Georgia as an indirect front. Standard american diplomacy.

Just a thought....

Yes America is involved.

Yes - The CIA and Mossad were training Georgian troops. The Geogian president is American educated and has ties to numerous "influential" figures in the US and Israel.

Yes - the media has been forwarding propaganda massively biased towards Georgia. They state the whole thing was Russian instigated against poor little Georgia. Quite the opposite. Russia was defending it's citizens. Same as the US would defend Alaskans.

Nato, the UN and america got involved in the Kosovo / Serbia / Bosnia situation. Why can't Russia defends thier citizens?

The US wanted to run an oil pipeline across Georgia and needed to push the Russians back in an attempted land grab. That is what it is all about again people. Ufcking OIL!!! From the Caspian basin. Read up on Bridas and the real truths about Afghanistan and Iran.

Do yourselves a favour.

Learn to fucking read something other than White House released bullshit. And all you yanks that are convinced by your media's reporting that Georgia and America are the good guys and that Russia is being a bit of a bastard - check the facts: AMERICA IS BEING A CUNT AGAIN!!!!!

Its not about Bush, or the "illuminati". both are just excuses for the governing elite to get away with their larger plans. In this case, it is about more than Georgia. It might be oil. It might be the upcoming conflict with Iran. It might be related to China way on down the line. It is about strategy, and positioning. Its about getting away with it. Its about playing mindgames with the public.

I concur. It's about positioning. It's about imperialism.
Politics is perception, and it scares me how easily the lie;
"Russia is the invader", has taken root in every American with whom I discuss this.

Offhanded comments that "an advisor to McCain is a lobbyist with ties to Georgia."
don't even come close to relaying the real impact that Randy Scheunemann has
with regards to both the Iraq Occupation and McCain's concept of foreign policy.

Scheunemann is McCain's Senior Foreign Policy and Security Advisor.
He was the head of the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq.
He was the goddamned Director of the PNAC!

acquaint yourself with his influence (http://rightweb.irc-online.org/profile/1347.html)

hello globe!

wow...that scheunemann is a sonofabitch.

im sick of these "revolving door" "thinktank" "neocon" "Policy Institutes" that are running american foreign policy...and who knows what else.

these are the elitist trash that we owe our successes to...and of course, its nothing new-this is how the west was won.

great website btw, never came across that one before!

Bob

why would anyone want to be in control of a country that's at war with russia?

Ali

Did you hear Bush's speech? "9/11, national threats, attack to defend, fear and loathing... McCain the War President."

This incident in Georgia couldn't have happened at a better time for the Republicans. Convenient, eh?

Bob

i still don't get why even the republicans would want a war with russia. it's russia! they're very hard to kill, in fact i don't think anyone's ever done it. even if we won, what would we gain? there's no reason to want that war that i can think of.

US to give $1 billion aid package to Georgia, I have a feeling this will land another missile defense deal

BAKU, Azerbaijan — President Bush proposed $1 billion in humanitarian and economic assistance on Wednesday to help rebuild Georgia after its short, disastrous war with Russia last month, but he stopped short of committing the United States to reequipping the country’s battered military.

While New Orleans quietly rots, bridges collapse in Minnesota, homes are swept away in tornado alley, Fires consume the Californian countryside, while...

hmm...putting aside some savings for after they get out?

They totally screwed Ron Paul, why is Ron Paul associating his political banner with these windbags? I mean really he doesn't buy into any of this. If McCain were to be a maverick Paul would be his running mate.

The republicans distance themselves and snicker at him.

They don't need to win. They just need a National Security banner to rally the Party Faithful around. Everybody knows that Democrats suck at war.
