Well, I finally have a job interview for Tuesday. It's an office manager position, which is right up my alley.
I had to take a typing test, among other things. 53 wpm, two errors per minute, adjusted score 51 wpm.
I had to take tests for Excel, powerPoint, and Word, too, which was interesting. I had assume Excel would be my worst, because I hardly
ever use it, but it turned out to be my best. 87%.
There were things it asked me to do in Word and PowerPoint I'd never even heard of. Plus, they were the latest versions of each, so some
things I knew how to do in earlier versions I couldn't do in these new versions because the test wouldn't allow it. Also, some things it
asked me to do specifically with shortcuts, and, hell, I don't know all the short cuts.
I still got 80% on each of those, but I feel a little gypped.
Oh, well. Wish me luck, please. (y)

*wishes a-z luck*
I was at a job interview this week as well.
I said I can Powerpoint, but I ain't that great on it, have to do some homework on it.
I'd be teaching garden planning and garden design on three different evening courses, varying between 6 and 12 weeks.
The interview went really well, only - thing was I haven't got experience in teaching grown ups, only kids.
Hopefully there won't be any others who have as much competence for the job as I do.
Guess I'll find out next week....

Oh, man -- that actually sounds pretty perfect for you, the teaching-adults part notwithstanding. I'm sure you'd be great at it.
Good lucks! (y)(y)(y)

powerpoint is so bogus in the real world
i mean, i understand people want visual aids and shit, but you should be able to present anything without it. and most of the time it doesnt really help any, it just draws people away form the person doing the talking
pretty impressive typing skills though (y)

The Microsoft Word section had questions about macros. I'd never even heard of macros.
I did surprisngly well on the mail merge questions, considering that I abandoned Word for bulk mailings years and years ago. It never worked
properly, though maybe it does now.
Anyway. 2:00 p.m. tomorrow. I hope it's overcast like today so the bike ride there doesn't make me too sweaty in my dress shirt and tie.

They should have made you type out a picture of a bowl of macaroni and cheese using just slashes and commas. Now that would have been some typing skills.

If only you could have made a real bowl of macroni and cheese with your penis then you probably would have been hired on the spot.
(And asked to never make macaroni and cheese for the office.)

Ow. Ow ow ow ow. Ow. Ow.
Dude, just lay on the charm.
I mean, you're computer competent and computer literate. Efficiency is something you build over time - if they judge you on that they're making a mistake. Office manager is all about the people skills.

See? Nothing says people skills like the ability to make macaroni and cheese with your weiner.

all our macros are so involved that we get a tech to come in and create them for us and then the rest of us just get to ctrl+this/that a couple times.
if they expect you to create shit like that then they are asking too much of a position listed as "office manager"
you will get the job. I knows it!

Thanks!
Funny enough, I got the macros questions right. It just took a while of clicking around.
"Help" was disabled and teh test required that you use no reference books. I understand that, in a way, but it doesn't exactlyn replicate
a real-world setting.
Anyway... hopefully it's a good office culture and I get the job. The place made over a quarter billion dollars last year and is on track
to do maybe $340,000,000 this year, so there's obviously money there.
