Ok...so we're kicked off again....
Don't think too much should be drawn from the first weekend (if memory serves me correctly Manchester United drew on the opening day of the season last year?).
Arsenal seemed to be same as usual, dominance of possession and lots of passing but not enough danger in the box. Still, looked like there could be good things to come. Nasri could be a perfectly fine replacement for Hleb, but we do need to replace Flamini. Barry? Alonso? Liverpool make up your mind so we can make up ours...
I have the worrying feeling that this is going to be Chelsea's year. They have the squad, and if Grant wasn't the man to do it then Scolari could well be. :/
Stoke got a nasty introduction...being raped by Bolton...ouch.
Villa for 5th.

Yeah, it was one big sausage-fest orgy! They loved it tho and wanted more, probably shouldn't of been wearing those shorts if they wasn't asking for it. Cus we know they was. Oh yeah, feel that slip between your nets - whats that you say? You want that again! BAM! BAM! BAM!

there's no excuse for Chelsea not to win it. quality in every position with a decent manager.
Arsenal need a DM to watch Fabregas' back, Barry would be good, and hopefully Djourou develops quickly so Senderos doesn't need to play. ever. again......other than that they should be good for 3rd/4th and a decent run in the knock-out comps. Nasri could be great.

I like my newcastle this year, not extraordinary but far more solid with the three new signings. I'm glad to see Spurs get beat though, even though I like Newcastle I think Middlesborough has done well with signing a good striker and Digard, I like him a lot.
But did anyone notice during the newcastle man utd game that when man utd equalized the camera went to CRonaldo in teh stands and he gave some fruity golf clap for about 2 seconds and then started texting? He shows a lot of passion.

Man City now owned by some U.A.E royalty. more resources than Abramovich, so the first thing they do is teabag Chelsea and buy Robinho.
and finally the Berbatov saga has come to an end. but it seems that City could've also stolen him from Man Utd. now that would've been funny.
Arsenal, despite stories of 30million euros to spend, buy no one. even Everton threw some money around. it could be a turbulent season for the Gunners. I just hope no one important gets injured as they have the depth of a paddling pool.

Fucking madness yesterday. Chelsea were out-Chelsea'd by Manchester fucking City.
Pity Spurs sold to United, they could probably have done them for acting inappropriately.
I really, really, really wish Arsenal had of strengthened their squad. Its going to be a tough, tough year now.
I don't think City have a chance of breaking the Top 4 this season, everyones getting a little bit too excited. But if they have the money they are claiming then next Summer will be even crazier. And if Arsenal remain to be un-bankrolled by foreign money and Arsene continues to resist buying players then we could be in serious trouble.
Fun!

Premiership teams don't have Euros, they have POUNDS. Euros are for Eurofags.
Arsenal are looking pretty sweet to me. They've got a wealth of raw talent and Wenger knows what he's doing with the Silvestre move. Who better to help raise the youth than somebody who has worked with the greatest manager in the world for 10 years? He must have seen Fergie bring so many young players through that he can replicate the technique by now.
And yeah, yesterday was batshit crazy. I was busy getting drunk last night so didn't check any news or anything, come down to get the paper this morning and WOAH. City are the new Chelsea? What the fuck? I was just starting to get over my lifelong hate for City thanks to the power of my dislike of Chelsea but it looks like we're going to have to refresh that old rivalry now.
Oh well, at least we will have Manchester dominating the top of the table. Fuck those pussy London teams. :)

they played so fucking stupid in injury time. when they should've just been keeping the ball and wasting the final 30 seconds, they were instead trying through balls and pushing for a fifth. Modric hadn't done shit the whole game but he finally gets into a decent position and puts up some loopy nonsense that somehow results in an equaliser.
RVP played well though. if only he wasn't made of glass. Tottenham are at least going to be amusing with Gomes in goal. what a muppet.
Clichy's slip for the third Tottenham goal was funny - Bentley's goal was anooyingly good for such a bellend. Gomes is hilarious - every match I've seen him play sprints out of his goal and punches his own defender in the back of the head whilst missing the ball entirely.
In other news, Lucky Liverpool keep on rollin'.

its good having a full midweek program, it should happen more but its not really possible. MOTD was top last night.
Bentley has scored goal of the saeson easy. I fuckin hate the little smug bastard but that was awesome strike.
Berba's bit of skill to set up ronaldo was amazing. We will be up there at the end of the saeson no doubt. We got a game in hand, beat the mickeys at our place and the difference is only two points. I still think that chelsea will win it this year but its going to be very tight between the three teams, i dont think the arse have got a hope of winning the league this year.

Yeah, I noticed that. Ronaldo seems to be doing his best to look sullen and annoyed that he has to play football for £5million a year. Berbatov has got his "dream move" and now looks more depressed than he was at Spurs. I don't think there has ever been a likeable Man Utd player.

Drederick Tatum

true. Fabregas has got all the skills but he is still only in his very early 20s so is yet to develop the mental qualities of a true vet....and when his midfield partner is even younger than he is, well, a bit of age wouldn't go amiss really. someone like Toulalan would be good, even though he's only 25 he's got wise grey hair already.

Yup.
Plus, he's a different player than Vieira. I think what happened is that we were all blind-sided by Cesc's rise, its like he took over as the central midfielder superstar role that Vieira left...but he's a different player.
Last season Cesc shined along side Flamini...Flamini played that role and Cesc was free to do this thing. And we lost Flamini.

Drederick Tatum
10-30-2008, 02:02 PM
it's almost not even a question of what kind of player they are. Arsenal just need someone with the mental strength that others can look to. at the end of the Tottenham game leadership could've come even in the simplest form, like just overtly choosing not to play a 50/50 pass and instead playing a simple back pass. something like that would've been a clear sign to the rest of the team that everything was under control, that a two goal lead was enough, and it was time to keep the ball.
of course Mascherano would be a great fit, but he'd be a great fit for nearly any team. possibly the best DM in the world.

you do not win the champions league without ronaldo last year, end of story. before him there was only 1 in the past 30 years.
I've always found the argument that "you only won because of x,y or z player" quite redundant. That's the whole point. You have better players than other teams. As a Liverpool fan you always hear "if it wasn't for Gerrard/Torres scoring that goal" or "if it wasn't for Reina making all those awesome saves" you wouldn't have won. No shit. That's the whole point. You try and get better players playing together in a team so you can beat the other team.
When/If Ronaldo leaves United (and we can all breathe a sigh of relief as the Cheshire air becomes a bit clearer) it's not like United will suddenly start playing with ten men. They are allowed to replace him. Sure he scored a shitload of goals last season, but I'm sure without him United would have filled in the blanks quite easily.

As a Liverpool fan you always hear "if it wasn't for Gerrard/Torres scoring that goal" or "if it wasn't for Reina making all those awesome saves" you wouldn't have won. No shit. That's the whole point. You try and get better players playing together in a team so you can beat the other team..
There is no way of knowing if we would have won it without him so its a pretty shite argument. Sure he scored loads of goals but someone else could have chipped in, played a similar role. who knows. All i do know is we aint gonna fall apart without him and will probably make sure we have someone decent to replace him before he goes. I am not going to lose any sleep when he goes. Since fergie took over he has gotten rid of players who were pivotal before and we were still successful. You must remember that fergie has been very influential to ronaldo and not the other way round, its not like we bought this super wonder footballer who was a world beater straightaway. Its taken time and effort from Cris, fergie and he is helped by being in a great team. I'm not even sure he will be as effective in another team.

The fact is that ronaldo was able to score all those goals because we were solid at the back, solid and creative in midfield and had loads of options up front and ronaldo was allowed free reign.
IMO, The arse have a long way to go, you need to get rid of that bellend Van persie. He's talented but he's a cock. I think Villa will pip you lot for fourth this year.

it was mutual luck that man u bough him. for him because it helped him develop into the player he is, for the club because it is a different team when hes not in it going 100%.
but i bet you in his head he never thought when man u bought him that he would be finishing his carear in the land of bad food and crappy weather.
I actually believe it was £12.5 mill that brought him to Old Trafford, it's not like he just tripped up and landed outside of Carrington.
As a Man U fan, from Manchester I can tell you that Ronaldo is slowly dividing the fans. At one side you have the die hard ronnie fans who love him for who he is and what he does, but at the other you have the fans who are sick and tired of his petulance and his lack of commitment during the summer.
I wouldn't miss him if he left, sure he's been a great player but no player is bigger than this club.
Maybe Ronnie just gets caught up in his own hype?

are you mental? Sure he isnt the greatest player in the world but he is greatly improved, been deputising for scholes and supporting carrick brilliantly this season, scored goals but should have scored more. we need players like fletcher and o shea to help sustain the form over the saeson, keep hold of darren for now and certainly dont flog him to the arse.
You watch him week in and week out... he squanders about five shots a game from deep in and then stands there looking upset whilst he opposition break around him.
Yeah I agree, he's been a better player but he needs to learn how to finish if he's gonna take so many shots.

If ronaldo is hiding in games then someone on the other side must be doing a good job and that can create openings for others.
He is a massive threat and other teams will employ strategies to deal with him, players that good force sides to do things differently sometimes and that can be expolited with a team that has such a devastingly awesome frontline like ours.
My point is that as people keep saying, it really is a team game and no one is bigger than the team or the club.

i am a student of the game my friend with literally thousands of hours playing and watching under my belt. i am not denying his awesome jaw dropping skill. i know he does stuff most people never dream of, and that takes tons and tons of practice. however, champions league, euros, world cups, WHERE IS HE?
thats where maradonna became a legend. scoring a goal like he did against england is magical. im sure he did many the same thing against the likes of torino and lecce when he was at napoli but no one remembers him for that, you get what im saying?
what kaka did to manchester two years ago is the stuff legend is made of. pouting and being marked out of big games is not. score all the goals he likes in a league that is suited to his talents (extreme quickness and speed + wide open spaces of the english game = lots of goals) but until he does it on the big stage there really is no argument.

I knew you'd bold that bit up.
Maradonna is the exact antithesis of Ronaldo. He was a big game player and played his best football internationally. He was too random at club level (blame cocaine).
That was Kaka two years back, Kaka today is a man destined to be heavily marked, he's being kicked off the pitch week in week out at the moment. I'm sure most flair players have a great season and then spend the next few being tactically marked. That's just how it goes.
Actually the Premier league is too fast for flair players and you have the least space. From the first and final whistle the game never slows and it's seen as the most physical league in the world. Someone with Ronaldo's skill would be better placed in Seria A or La liga where the pace is actually slower and you are gifted the space to showboat.
Drederick Tatum
12-24-2008, 05:15 AM
saying Ronaldo hides in big games implies that it's a conscious decision on his part when really it's due to the heavy man marking he is subjected to. it happens to most great players, see Kaka vs Marscherano.

you may have seen this on the internet over the last 24 hours but just in case:
I have come across dialogue between Man City and AC Milan superstar Kaka. Unfortunately I only have the script from the City end but I think it is clear for all as to the total content:
"Hello, is that Kaka? How do you fancy becoming the supply line to Craig Bellamy and Darius Vassell this winter?
"No, your fellow countryman doesn’t like the cold and will be out until mid April - but you will play alongside Stephen Ireland"
"No, Kaka, Ireland is a person not a country"
"yes, I fully appreciate that he is not Ronaldinho, Pirlo or even Beckham but many fans have him in their fantasy football"
"I know you are currently the richest man in Italy but we can double it!"
"erm, well, we have had a bit of a slide recently and we are currently 15th"
"erm, out of 20...... but Mark Hughes once won the double for our neighbours"
"Hughes"
"Ex Blackburn boss"
"Blackburn, Blackburn Rovers"
"No, Blackburn......Black.....Burn"
"HUGHES man, HUGHES!!!"
"He once scored a good goal against Spain"
"No, thats Gerry Armstrong..... anyway, are you coming or not?"
"Usually about two thirds full but if we play a big team its really rocks"
"yes I know, but we dont even have a car park cos all the fans walk to the ground they are so local"
"Relevance? well, I suppose its all they have to brag about whether its true or not"
"Only the one to be fair but its called 'blue moon' you will love it"
"Blue"
"yes, definitely blue, always has been"
"No, no, no, they are in Trafford"
"yes they are, steeped in it in fact but what good is history to you my ambitious friend?"
"erm, 1976 I think"
"it was the er, the er League cup if memory serves me right"
"Well, the plan was to get in the top 4 this season and then....."
"yes, I realise that but....."
"Aston Villa? Whats it got to do with them?"
"Yes, I know but we have been down this history route already"
"How the heck does a Brazilian playing in Italy know about Nottingham Forest?"
"Yes, yes, and Leeds United also made a final but you are missing my point, this is all about the future"
"Give me strength......HUGHES!!!!"
"yes I know he did and he was a legend there but he is a changed man"
"forget them, they are falling apart"
"But all those trophies were won last year! They have won nothing in 2009"
"I have told you.... 1976!!!!"
"How the heck does a Brazilian playing in Italy know that Virginia Wade has won Wimbledon since then?"
"Yes she probably is in her 60's"
"I dont know, probably about 10 league titles, 2 european cups and countless domestic cups what has that got to do with it?"
"76,000 why?"
"yes, every game, even minor cups I suppose, but where is this getting us?"
"Yes, the league cup is considered a minor cup over here why?"
"I know, I know, I know, ok perhaps they won the FA Cup in 1970 or something does it really matter?"
"look, Kaka, we will treble whatever you are on now, buy you a mansion in Alderley Edge and give you a helicopter for your front lawn....are you joining us?"
"NO!, its owned by the council - what has the ground got to do with anything"
"well, officially its the city of manchester stadium but most people call it Eastlands"
"EAST!, not Waste"
"You will be adored there"
"No, not there, here I meant"
"No, thats Old Trafford, I meant adored here at Waste....erm, Eastlands"
"Anderson??? what does he know?"
"Ok I hear what you say, but other than Pride, Ambition, Achievement, History, Passion and a large car park - what can they offer you?"
"what do you mean no credit left in your phone.....I phoned you"
"Hello, Mr Kaka,...... Mr Kaka are you there?............................YOU RED B*ST*RD!!!!!"

Same thing for real madrid too, that shit happens, more before but still a little bit. then again during world cups, its all on brazil. i was hoping for holland but put my money on italy and then by the end when italy won everyone jumps on that train. Its whoever is hot at the time as far as I can tell. When AC won the CL i had a jersey of theirs and i wore it one day (yeah, i support juve, but i got the jersey for liek $10, as long as it isnt inter) and someone was like 'jumping on the bandwagon, huh?'. so, idk where this was supposed to go, but for the die hard true fans of any team i respect, its when people who barely know shit about the team claim they're huge fans and have no idea wtf is going on.

When I was growing up, Wigan was known for its rugby team and the football team was playing in the Campbell's Soup Division 2 league or someshit. It was always going to be either United, City, Liverpool, or Everton, and United were closest.

One thing that annoy sme about Wigan is how each and every player that performs well for (at the most) three consecutive games, seems to be on the brim of joining asupposedly bigger club. Get some pride lads.

thats nothing to do with the players. Its paper talk and the fact is that wigan are one of the "unfashionable" clubs and the press will link their players to other more established clubs. Wigan's only been a football league club for 30 years, but i am sure you knew that already

gooners....drederick...toucan..what do you think of arshavin?
its weird..im glad we spent, im glad we got a good player....but.....we broke out transfer record to get in a replacement for our best player/captain, instead of getting in the flamini/vieira/gilberto player we need long term..although it may help address our perennial "have changes but never do anything about them problem" that was briefly alleviated last year when fab and flamini were on fire together...
i remember all the pants-shitting about arshavin last summer me saying he was good, but i dunno if he was worth the hype.
BUT..overall i am happy..im happy we've gotten new blood in..maybe he can spark adebayor and help out RVP who is carrying the team..im glad arsene remembered how to buy...(although..sometimes thats a bad thing :) )

I reckon the top 6 teams will finish in the order they are now in unless Hiddink can squeeze something out of Chelsea in which case they'll finish third, Villa in fourth. Everton will seriously push Arsenal for fifth place now that they have a striker on their books who can score a goal or two.
