I need any helpful informantion or tips on where to find the info i am seeking. I wrote some lyrics to a song for a friend; and now he is talking about selling the song.
I have no clue on how it works in the business when a third party writes a song for other musicians? copy writes,? royalties,? is there a standard contract???????

we can't possibly advise until we see the lyrics in question.

I don't think I can post the lyrics until they have been copyrighted?. My friend was saying something about going to Nashville to sell my lyrics. I just want to know my rights as the writer. My friend says he has come up with a melody for the song. But I have not heard it yet?

I've just sold this thread and all of it's content to the Guns and Roses message board.

Please do not reply in here as this is a copyright owned thread, thankyou ©

^ Yup or BMI or SESAC. Those are good places to start.

Plus, know your copyright law. Make sure your lyrics are on a tangable means of expression and you've marked it accordingly. If you are serious about selling your lyrics, make sure you apply for a copyright.

Plenty of resourses on the web to help you besides B-F General Discussion. :)

I dunno much about selling lyrics but I do know a lot about sell out lyrics... I was playing a gig at the state fair and they wanted me to change a few lyrics cus it was a "family oriented" show and the sponsors were worried...I was like "Fuck that I aint no sell out!"

great thread. To me, anyway. Best of luck on selling yours. I have one under my belt and have for years and I just haven't found the right people/band to work with on it.

One man says to another:
"My wife's gone on holiday to the Carribean."
"Jamaica?"
"No, she went of her own accord."
