I got to thinking about albums I actually like and how it's rare for me to have a track that I have to force myself to listen to. What's an album you like with a song on it that you usually skip?
"Funky Ride" off of Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik
"Mamacita" off of Aquemini
"Polly" off of Nevermind

Polly breaks the halves of that record perfect, in my opinion. And it's a tune.
Personally..
Genesis on Illmatic has never been an inspired intro for me, I just cut straight to NY State of Mind.
Up in the Sky on Oasis' Definitely Maybe.
And KP will disagree, but I think there's a clutch of songs on Evil Empire that could've been cut to make a more essential in-between albums EP!
Incidentally saw Rage last night, absolutely MEGA. Back off to the fest for me!

Aye, Evil Empire was full of dirge. Nothing terrible, just nothing particularly interesting.
Too many to think of personally. The first one that springs to mind is Stadium Arcadium - they should've just wiped the discs and repackaged it as a set of drinks coasters presented within a handy bookend, then at least I might've bought two copies to complete the set.

I wouldn't argue with that. It's just for some reason when I'm hearing all these hard and fast songs it's kind of jarring to slow down with something soft. Not really a bad song but it is what it is.
"Polly" off of Nevermind
Polly is David Bowie's all-time favorite Nirvana track. It stands out as pretty much the only track on Nevermind that wasn't about Kurt, makes the strongest case for Cobain's ability to write songs that aren't esoterically involved in his personal life.
I agree it didn't really fit in the album, but it's a great song.

Shadow of the Day shouldve been cut from Linkin Parks album Minutes To Midnight. Shoomp shoulda been cut from De La's the Grind Date. What's Next from Down With The King. Hot Thing from Eardrum by Talib.

wow! that song is so ill. i'm shocked. i completely disagree :)
"the mall" on gang starr's moment of truth album. the song just totally killed the vibe of the entire album. if you cut that song then you have one of the greatest hip hop albums ever.
"let da monkey out" from redman's doc's da name 2000. not that the album was anything better than solid, but that song is trash.
"kim" from eminem's marshall mathers lp. dude is better than that shock value bullshit.

Maxwell's Silver Hammer off Abbey Road.

I used to skip Mamacita, but its actually grown on me a bit, i can stand it.

I think it's much easier to count how many perfectly balanced albums have been released than how many songs that should've been cut.
There are only a few hundred perfect albums and a million that could've been perfect.
Maxwell's Hammer is pretty obnoxious when you start to think about it. If only they could of put Get Back or Rain in that slot.

Exactly how I felt about Battle for L.A. Folks having strokes, it seems.

For me it just goes on way too long and it's really jarring to switch up styles like that when they spit so hard on the entire album and then go to Funky Ride.
I used to skip Mamacita, but its actually grown on me a bit, i can stand it.
It's mostly the chorus that drives me crazy. It's easily the weakest track on the album for me though.

I think that Genesis is a good intro, actually, but I have to agree that just starting the record off with NY State of Mind would be sick.

how about cutting all those fucking ridiculous skit intro's that so many people like to do. they are all so stupid and add nothing but trash

I like Genesis as an intro, not inspiring, but nicely sets up the album. The NY train tracks click-clacking with young Nas and AZ rambling about getting drunk off Hennesy.
The closest thing i can think of as far as a flawless hip hop album.

Shoomp shoulda been cut from De La's the Grind Date.
WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING? That might be the best song on the album right there.

You see I agree with that too...Fortunately for me the best songs on those two albums are fucking brilliant. Which is what's goodabout the live set (although I guess they were mostly singles too so it's to be expected). But yeah, to me Rage have one classic album.

Indeed. Although I don't see much wrong with Paul's Boutique, I guess you could arge that no one would miss the 'skits' - well, if you can call them that, but they don't spoil it's perfection for me.

I wish Chicken Dinner weren't on there.
I usually skip over "To All the Girls" too, but I'm glad it's there.

Something 2 Dance 2 definitely feels out of place on Straight Outta Compton. it's still slammin though.

I always skip those rap skits that are just people pretending to have sex. Like on 2001, Ready To Die, Capital Punishment, Three Feet High and Rising, etc. They just make me cringe. I don't wanna hear some fat guy breathing heavily and pretending to hump. Who the fuck came up with that and thought it would be a cool thing to have on an album?

i skip all skits full stop. they only skit i don't skip 100% of the time is clyde smith. they're just so pointless and distracting.
wanna release a 20 song album? then give us 20 songs, not 9 skits and 11 songs. *cough de la cough*

Some skits do have merit, in my opinion. Prince Among Thieves wouldn't work without them, and most of the Wu ones are pretty cool.
I love the opening to Ironman. (y)
oh yeah, good call. forgot that (y)

I've never listened to a rap record that had no skits and thought to myself "Man, I really wish this record had a ton of skits on it."
I don't think anyone has.
