As a dude you can pull it off if you go the buzz cut route. Honestly though I don't think many guys can carry it off successfully. But that's just my little opinion. Pick your clipper length and go for it if you're so inclined. I never go to a salon anymore, I dye my own hair and whenever I visit home, my mom trims the bottom for me heehee. Sure beats the Benjamins I'd have to shell out at a salon!

i dont think i can, i just mostly want the back of my hair gone, but it is hard to cut that myself. it is too thick for florida.

is 15 bucks just too much for a simple haircut?

you should get someone to help you. your hair's kinda too short to effectively cut yourself in the back. also, it looks like it's really straight, so mistakes are gonna show pretty easily.

in answer to your question though, yes, I usually cut my own hair. but it's long and wavy/curly so mistakes don't show too much. and my mom was a hairdresser and taught me a few things.

I once shaved my hair all off right down to the stubble. At first I was just shaving my sideburns down, then I thought... "I wonder what happens if..."
Then I'd gone too far and had to shave the whole lot off.

I looked like a cross between a gay Bruce Willis and my dad.

Twice I have cut my own hair, twice it has been at work, and twice I have used secateurs and the reflection of polished aluminium sheeting.

i used to cut my own hair but it took many mirrors and a lot of patience. I can do a nice fade on other people and a pretty decent one on myself but it's not worth the hassle...although I do spend like $40 a month on haircuts

I'm thinking of doing this also.

Maybe a number 3 all over, cus I think that is about optimum for my hair. Not that a hair cut is expensive but it'll be handy not having to leave the house for another thing once or a month or so.

i'd gotten $10-$20 haircuts my whole life and ALWAYS left the barber shop wanting to murder the guy. i found out that if you have chiney hair like me, you can't get a proper, normal looking haircut unless you get an expensive haircut. the last haircut i paid for was like $80, and it did look good but FUNK DAT... i've spent maybe $20 on electric buzzers in the last 3-4 years and it looks better this way.

What is chiney hair? Is it hair like that of the Chinese people?

Nygel you should get someone else to do it. It's not hard to trim hair that was once decently cut, I'm sure you could find someone who has cut hair before and they'd probably do it as a favor. If you trim the edges with thinning shears you can easily avoid choppy layers.

Chiney hair is like when you get all dressed in a nice white suit, throw on a few chiney chains, put on your chiney choes, hop in your chiney car and hit a club n chit.

nygel! there really is no way for you to cut your own hair if you're using scissors unless your hair is loooong. just get a buzzer and cut that shit off, boom.

yes, chiney hair - thats what i call it.

Nygel asked this question ages ago and I was gonna do the same so I searched and bumped this thread instead*. I'm guessing he's already done it.

*I never know the etiquette on this.

Oh yeah, definately. Clippers down to the scalp three times a year. If I'm especially motivated, I'll even get the razor out for the full-on chrome dome look. You do need the a good head to pull it off, which I do thankfully. Otherwise you'll end up looking like a mental patient or serial killer. Its why most bald blokes look ridiculous.

Odd, I just got texted from some broad who wants to cut my hair. I don't even trust myself to cut it. I've only allowed one person to cut mine the last 20 years. My shit's monogamous.

I usually cut my own hari, I'm cheap like that.
Very rarely, for special occations I go to the hairdressers. Now there's a new owner at my next door hairdressers.
He had a special offer when he started and he made the best cut I'd ever had, so I've been there a few times since.
Should do it tomorrow actually, but I'm quite broke.
The earlier owners weren't half as good, hence I went there only twice in 15 years....

I cut my own bangs sometimes. But otherwise, no.

It's pretty hard to mess up curly hair but I still would never cut my own. I was thinking about checking out the Aveda Institute for a $15 cut, but there's a salon next door that says in the window "we fix $15 hair cuts" so you can see why I am hesitant.

Has anyone ever gone to any one of these student oriented hair cutteries?

I cut my hair. The last time I got my hair cut was just before my wedding about 2 years ago. I got a 1/3 discount for being bald - sweet. Not sweet enough to go back though.
