SAN'A, Yemen (AP) — Suspected militants armed with automatic weapons, rocket-propelled grenades and at least one suicide car bomb assaulted the U.S. Embassy in the Yemeni capital on Wednesday. The coordinated attack killed 16 people, including six assailaints, officials said.

The U.S. said no Americans were hurt.

Multiple explosions rang out outside the heavily-guarded facility, and gunfire raged for at least 10 minutes at the concrete checkpoints that ring the compound. The dead included six attackers, six Yemeni guards and four civilians, the state news agency SABA reported.

Now I don't know if it is coincidence that an attack like this is taking place during election season. Bush and his followers have bragged that his "war against terror" kept the U.S. safe from terrorism since 9/11, that has never been the case and this proves it. The boogie man is back (n)

Perhaps we should find out who exactly is to blame and sit down and NEGOTIATE with them.

Maybe find out what their hopes and dreams are?

Of the four wars in my lifetime, none came about because the U.S. was too strong.

right. maybe we should continue to wage war on the powerless, and enforce our manifest destiny on the rest of the world. what gives us the right, what kind of authority are we? i dont blame middle eastern people for not linking us, look at what we have done to their countries, to the entire region?

No, we should lay down our arms an allow our enemies to rape us anally and attack our embassies because we somehow "deserve it".
We should not defend ourselves at all against terrorists.

Just a thought, but isn't the whole intent of having an Embassy in a foreign country to help build relations and communication between the two nations?

oh its such a picture perfect and clear cut world isnt it rob?

a lot goes on in embassies, including spying, under the table deals and god knows what else.

are you really incapable at looking at the causes? or do you just see the effects? Our country has been going around the world forcing our agendas, policies, ideals and economy on others for the better part of the last 60 years. We have built our strength on the suffering of others. First we invade and plunder, murder and demolish. Then we put our man in their office of power who will comply to our policies and either get rich for doing so, or be overthrown by another one of our guys who will obey. Now we have access to their resources, their cheap labor and our corporations can set up their sweat shops and plantations in their backyards.

Meanwhile, the people are demoralized, their culture and heritage is stolen from them, their leaders are assasinated, they are barely surviving on their 13 cent per day job, they are living in filth, with no access to clean water, electricity or healthy food- they are suffering.

So, logically, one can understand why an embassy placed in a country by the United States who destroyed their country, might catch fire.

In Yemen, the story is a little different, but embedded in a region where we have inflicted great pain and suffering on millions of families. Their children grow up and see the suffering, are exposed to it, maybe their parents are killed by one of those smart bombs that wasnt too smart, and maybe they blow up an embassy.

If blowing up an embassy is wrong, then i think invading other countries and killing innocent people and causing the suffering of millions might also be wrong. which came first?
