Hey -
so here's what I had at Street Scene:
9/19: Smaller crowd, bigger problems:
hot chip: They make the most sense on stage, structured but loose.
You like dance? They like dance. They like YOU to dance.
diplo: expected happy surprise dancey, but got 'rave-y' (You know, 'boomboomboomboomboom' + scant vocals?).
He's someone I'll see again, hopfully levitating a small club.
Nope, not sick of "Paper Planes".
tv on the radio: Good! Really fun, great hooks, high spirits. if you haven't, do.
The singer should get some Ricola - no one wants to end up sounding like Roger Waters...
gza: Front row, waited on his gz-ass for almost an hour. Left without hearing a word.
Walked on tv on the radio early/Missed a slab of spoon
... to watch the crowd get PISSED OFF ...
spoon: solid. For some reason, they boasted the best sound of the festival. More on this later (dunh dunh DHUNH)...
beck - am in love with much of his music, esp. the newest.
(HAD to get in position early, so spent the interim dancing it up to Justice, playing across the way -- any time I have to choose between watching djs hunch over and an actual band I KNOW WHAT TO DO and it feels good! They finally threw in some 'party', thank the jesus.)
back to beck: sound SUCKED. It was tragic. Every now and then he'd ask 'can you hear me?' - and yes, we could BUT ONLY THAT PART. Fuuhck.
The douchbag index was high, front right of the stage.
I.E., this friendly girl I chatted with before the show told me after "not to be scared, but I stabbed some drunk bitch with a nail file."
(Uh, if you don't want to scare people, don't tell them that you're a stabber...?) And she was a NICE FRIENDLY person. There were fights, and a LOT of fight bullshit chatter, blatant fucktoe shoving and some evil ass attitudes front right. A pity.
