F1 races at Silverstone 6/19/09 - 6/21/09. I'm getting things set to take the trip. I know there's some people here from England and such, and was wondering if anyone has ever been to the F1 race before. If so, any tips or help on finding a good time? I figure I'll hit the Candian GP before and then skip out to England. I'll have a full week or so in London before going to Silverstone, so any info would be great.

Thanks.

Singapore casts of so much ambient light it hardly counts as Le Mans type affair...:D

I've never seen F1 live but love it. But I did used to follow Touring Cars and V8s (often the same bill) all over the country.

Things that I'm pretty will be on all race meetings is the put walk - get in if you can, it'll be early on you may get chance to meet some drivers.

Go to all the sessions to - practice is where they crash and if you are there from the beginning then you get to see the facilities without 1000 people blocking your view.

Take a fold up stool that is very easy to carry.

Get all the free junk you can so take a empty large rucksack

I wish I could go. I've only ever been to one race in my entire life, which is sucky because I love motorsports.

^^^^ Thanks Adam, I always go to every session. Pit access is a bit sketchy for F1. Very tight security. Next year could be a big one for Hamilton too (maybe he'll be defending his WDC?), so it'll be even tighter for that GP.He's quite the star around those parts from what I read and see.

Neeeeeeoooooooowwwwww. I love saying that.

So your dad was probably there for the big rain week a few years back? I'm glad they kept it on the schedule.
I'm looking around for some other options, but I love camping. I'm just not sure I'd wanna lug gear from Chicago to London and then back home again. Maybe I'll just buy some gear there, and sell it to off random campers Sunday before I leave. There's really no better way to meet fans than on the campground late at night with about 20 beers in ya. ;-)

Neeeeeeeeooooooooowwwwwww.

I wanna go now - I might just do it. Its about time I saw a F1 race!

It'll be in Brands Hatch soon won't it? <-- can't find anything on the web about it, not sure what made me think it was moving...

Hey,if you happen to run into Nigel Mansell make sure you do it at speed or close the door in a corner cause he's a dink...really an unpleasant man...;)

I don't think F1 will ever return to Brands Hatch. While it is a great track, it just hasn't really made the safety improvements to hold a F1 race. They'll need about 80 million to get things up to par for F1. I don't think that's in the budget for Brands Hatch. I remember when ChampCar went there (3 years ago?), and from old races I've seen, it looks pretty much the same. So a LOT of work would need to be done.Silverstone has been saying they'll make the improvements asked of F1 (new pit lane etc.) but we'll see. Next year could be the last year for Silverstone, but I doubt it. Way too much history to let drop because of a few bucks in Bernie E's pocket. There was talk about Brands Hatch getting a race last year, but they sunk the thought after the track and cash review.

Race Tracks in the UK are run on shoe string budget - I haven't been to Silverstone for about 5 years but then it was no better than any of the other ones apart from a large screen in one place.

So don't expect (from what I've seen) the facilities of the american racetracks

Oh yeah, I know all about Nigel. Very full of himself indeed, but then again ya kinda have to be to pilot an F1 car to World Chapionship. But it's still no excuse for his behavior. Not many people around these parts care for him at all.

We don't have the best tracks here either. Indianapolis is bit of a non-comparison since the Indy 500 has been there forever. It's always adding new things every year. I would never expect any road course to be a state of the art facility unless we're talking about Dubai or China. I really don't want to see those places anyway. I like the old school feel with tracks like Silverstone.

While were kicking around F1 I just want to throw out “Grand Prix” which on the tube the other day, best racing movie ever I think…the cinematography is so wicked and the split screen technique was so bold for it's time...(y)

No doubt one of the best if not THE best film ever made about racing all together, let alone F1.

LeMans with Steve McQueen was great as well.

I just saw some other old movie with really old footage of Monaco. I can't think of the name right now. It'll come to me.....
