Even though we all saw this coming, it doesn't make it any easier.

Paul was a big part of many peoples lives. He owned and operated a very successful open wheel team for a very long time. He was at almost every race til the end. He always spoke out for what he felt was right or wrong with the series he was competing in. Sometimes we disagreed, but it was always agreed that he was looking out for the best of openwheel. The pit lane will never be the same without him.
A funny story. A while back when F1 raced in Vegas at Ceasars, my family was sitting at a table for an event. Mario Andretti sits down with his wife and another woman at our table. We start talking and my mom (not the race going type at all) says to the other woman. "I sure do hope Paul Newman comes in tonight." Very excited. The other woman kinda looked at her and shrugged it off. My mon sees Paul walk through the door and she swoons. The other woman is still not impressed. My mom says, "Oh my god it's him!" Paul then walks over, stands behind the other woman, gives her a kiss, and sits down next to her. It was his wife. My mom said she never felt like such a moron in all her life. It's been a long standing joke any time we're around anyone with Team Newman/Haas.
He was a great man, and an even better racer. Way to go Paul. (y)
RIP

We knew it was coming, and obviously I didn't know him personally, but this was a blow.
RIP, Paul, and wishes for great comfort for Joanne. Neat, neat people.

I'll think of him every time I eat a salad.
have you ever read the back of a bottle of newman's own salad dressing? there's some funny stuff back there.
The Great Salad Dressing Balloon Race. An armada of balloons loaded with Low Fat Sesame Ginger. The starters gun - Bazoombah! They all rise majestically into the air. Newman's Own Balloon, with fewer calories, more taste and secretly propelled by charity, flies faster than Kraft and further than Wishbone. First across. First on the ground. El Piloto quaffs mucho quaffs of Newman's Own Low Fat Sesame Ginger in victory. A medium light Italian starlet, daughter of Butch Cassidini, named Bitch Cassidini, leaps into the balloon basket, kisses Piloto, her lips smeared with Newman's Own Low Fat, she murmurs, "You taste of Sicily, of Vesuvius, of Naples, baby", and patting his fanny she whispers, "and no fat."
RIP paul newman. may you quaff mucho quaffs in heaven. bazoombah!

Oddly enough, one of the first things I thought of when my dad told me Paul died was "Newmans Own" McDonalds california cobb salad dressing. Which is sad. I knew Larry King was probably going to spend the night talking about him and sure enough, "Thanks for joining us on the dead guy show"

Maybe just me...but I really don't find much genuinely sad about a man passing at the age of 83...particularily when one is being ravaged by the big C...I find myself focusing more on celebrating his acheivements and the influence he had on society as he went through this spectral plane...some of us are funeral people and some us are wake people,I suppose...(y)

If I could mold a man anyway of my choosing ... He would be an exact replica of Paul Newman.
