View Full Version : The GOP must be terrified of the VP debates...

Palin just can't answer questions correctly, it seems. Found this one on CNN:

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/28/mccain-retracts-palins-pakistan-comments/

I find it kinda fucked that McCain has to retract her statements. She can't say she screwed up on her own, daddy has to come out and say that she didn't really mean that, it's not their policy, etc.

Their relationship just seems really odd to me. Biden and Obama are friends and know each other, whereas McCain met Palin once before choosing her. The obvious politeness between them and how they talk about each other just kind of shows me that they don't know each other at all. It's something that's becoming more and more apparent to me, at least.

Palin will tank the VP debate so hard that it will convince some people to go Democrat. Despite her ferocity she's got to be one of the least intelligent politicians I've ever seen.

"Gotcha" journalism? What the fuck? When you say something completely wrong to someone asking a question about your policies, that's not the media trying to "catch you" in something, that's you fucking up.

I like how she had to take her chaperone to this interview though. They're afraid to let her in public by herself. Plus, look at how she avoids eye contact with McCain. I wonder if she got a scolding.

I've finally came around to watching the actual 2 part Palin interview with Katie Couric last night.

Does the republican party really want me to take this ticket seriously? I'm uncomfortable just watching how uncomfortable this candidate is. On the surface her body language makes me uncomfortable, the facial expressions and nervousness creep me out. It's as if in her head she's racing all over the place trying to grasp the proper speaking point for a lightweight interview, a cakewalk. A Katie Couric Cakewalk.

Then when she actually talks, it's a ringing endorsement to vote for somebody, anybody but who she is running with.

I'm not sure I can watch this without first just reading the medias take on it. She makes me physically uneasy with her inability to barely grasp the conversation she is in, let alone listen to her espouse on US policy issues.

I think this is a tough gig for Biden and I bet he is quite a bit nervous about it. As Americans our emotions and sympathy naturally gravitate to to the underdog. Palin in UNDOUBTEDLY the underdog here. So how does Biden smack her around with looking like he is "running up the score"? This is going to be awfully tricky for him. There is also the possible perceptions of sexim and old time DC insider to dance around. Joe is supoosed to win this debate but if he doesn't win decisively it could be considered a win for Palin, ala the NCAA Footbal Power Rankings. However, it is a fine, fine line between winning decicisvely and being a big old DC bully. With Joe's track record of stepping on his dick, it'll be interesting to see

I agree with you on it's not good for Biden, but my reasoning is different. I'm avoiding the debate because Palin's body language is so awkward I will not get to see Biden win the debate.

He'll be on cruise control, nobody the republicans have working for them can beat Biden in a debate, let alone Sarah Palin. He's been through a few of these political debates. I'm pretty sure his side of the podium will be milquetoast.

Just let Sarah talk, give her as much time as possible to talk. This is not the time to get out the democratic message, this is the time to get out the republican message. Joe will enhance a little, of that I'm sure.

i have the same exact concerns. my big fear is that biden's going to come off as too mean or condescending, and then the media will be all "just another example of the obama campaign beating up on poor sarah palin" or whatever the hell they're talking about. biden needs to be very careful with what he says.

my other concern is that they're going to train palin really really hard for this debate to the point where she actually comes off as (relatively) knowledgeable and prepared and just take everyone by surprise. like everyone's going to expect this to be a blowout for biden, but she'll come out and actually be able to answer a question or two and nobody will know what to say. like rocky, with tits.

has the media been making rocky references yet? i bet they have

Great strategy. Just let her implode.

Gov. Sarah Palin cites vigilance against Russian warplanes coming into U.S. airspace over Alaska as one of her foreign policy credentials. But the U.S. military command in charge says that hasn't happened in her 21 months in office.

"When you consider even national security issues with Russia, as (Prime Minister Vladimir) Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America, where — where do they go? It's Alaska," the Republican vice presidential nominee said in an interview last week with CBS News' Katie Couric.

However, no Russian military planes have been flying even into that zone, said Maj. Allen Herritage, a spokesman for the Alaska region of the North American Aerospace Defense Command, at Elmendorf Air Force Base.

"To be very clear, there has not been any incursion in U.S. airspace in recent years," Herritage said.
