I have my heart set on a little roadster and so far every man and his dog has told me that I can't go wrong with a little mx-5 (http://www.cardotcom.com/cars/images02/06mazda-mx-5-06.jpg). I've always seen them as a car for a hairdresser but I'm slowly warming to them.

Any suggestions?

It's a little too expensive, for that money I could be looking at a TT but been there done that lost the money.

I just want something small and nippy.

i have a friend that has that miata and he really likes it. i think the remote ignition is so awesome.

i know i don't drive a sports car per say, but my civic coupe is pretty damn sporty. had it a year and am still in love with it.

i love car talk!

smart people go with the smart car

it really depends on what you want from it. my little 2 door yaris is perfect for my needs. its cheap, fuel efficient, holds the things i need, and can fit into any parking space. but if you're looking to be more sporty, thats definitely not the way to go...

So Miata is the american mx5 then?

My mate has a little Yaris, good spec for a little town car (y)

How's it not the way to go? You mean the MX5?

That's the car my mum got rid of when she found out that she was pregnant with me!

I don't want old. It's fall to pieces in next to no time. Especially an MG, it's British built.

Who's Josef Fritzl?

I have to admit ...at the end of Se7en ... When Kevin Spaceys character was asked why he did what he did ... I have to agree with his answer.

Like I said, I've always thought of it as a hairdressers car...but me uphill gardening? I think not.

I've put voices to posts too...

you watch top gear? cmon... you know the best cheap roadster is the S2000 according to clarkson.

don't get a MX5; you'll fucking regret it when a carload of yobbos/chavs roll up next to you and let off a huge blast from their B.O.V.

yeah, that was my original plan, but they're just out of my price range and the second hand ones cost a fair bit too.

None of the chavs here have blow-offs, just holes cut into their backboxes to give the illusion of power :D

fairly huge stretch seeing as i don't know how huge the japanese import scene is there but a RX7 convert (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syps64I6jNA)?

camo
09-30-2008, 10:15 AM
Oh yeah, you can pretty much pick up a grey import anywhere in the UK but our climate is a lot tougher on cars so the shell of an import is liable to damage/corosion/rust far too easily than a UK spec.

Tzar
09-30-2008, 10:22 AM
truuuuue. snow and all, huh? i've never seen snow, anyway...

ummm... tough choices. the mx5 may be a good roadster but their image is too tainted by the hairdresser thing. you can't escape it. just keep saving for the s2000? or get a bigger loan?

what were you other options? did i see someone mention a TT? they're no better image-wise. new ones are porn though.

AceFace
09-30-2008, 10:27 AM
the nissan 350Z is very sexy... is that out of your price range?

camo
09-30-2008, 10:28 AM
Weather here changes daily, it's a real head fuck.

I can't get past the hair dresser thing either but everyone tells me about them being a really good ride and enthusiasts love them to pieces but they do have a great big pink fluffy cloud hanging above them.

I'm going to hold back and maybe see if I can strike a deal on a second hand s2000, but a TT? I've had one of those, it was four years old and it broke down twice in a year with major part problems and cost me over £2500 to sort it out. The earlier models are full of problems.

Yeah the new ones are sweet but waaaay outta my bracket.

I've been on it this afternoon as we've spoke, the prices are £9,000+ for anything newer than five years which is touching my budget on the wrong side, plus the engines 2-2.5 litres which is going to kill me for pertrol. The MX's are clocking in at two years newer, two grand under and 1.6-1.8...man, how can so many middle aged women and namby pamby hairdressers spoil the image of such a fun little motor (n)(n)

That's not the way peer pressure works.

You'll start to think "Hey, this Clay Aiken guy isn't that bad afterall" if you buy one.

Not, really, I just thought there might be some petrol heads on here with some ideas. I always knew someone would come here with some side swipes, this is the bbmb after all. That's why I said that I know it's a hairdressers car from the start! :D

normally, i'd agree

....but it's a mx5 :p

i hear what ya mean by the engine size+petrol. it's how you drive it though, as well. drive the car for 6 months or so and you'll get the hang of how to keep it's fuel gauge measured. i'm so keen for you to get a S2000, dunno why?! well i do know why.... cause the other day, a guy came out of an intersection with the foot fairly flat, and he had a grin on his face, his missus... far from a grin. it sounded tits too, man.

dooooo it.

first, you shouldn't make any major decisions based on what anyone on this board says.

next, i wouldn't buy a mazda. the majority owner of mazda is ford. enough said.

and in case that isn't enough, plenty of my friends have had miatas, and when they were in wrecks, they were severly injured, and had a long recovery period.

but, maybe you were just trying to brag that you get to buy a new (or new to you) car. if so, again, don't buy a mazda. unless you're an 18 year old girl.
