Tacitly acknowledging criticism that she's been diminished in part by an overly protective media shield, Sarah Palin will take a more forward-leaning approach and do additional interviews in the weeks ahead, a top aide said today.

"She's seen the reviews and heard the criticism, but she's a fighter," said this aide. "And now she's in a fighting mood."

Palin heads to McCain's cabin in Arizona today to prepare for her Thursday debate, and while she's there she'll do a round of conservative talk radio interviews.

"Talk radio is a convenient, powerful and effective outlet," said the aide.

Rush Limbaugh, who hosts the most popular radio show in the country, noted in an e-mail that he doesn't invite guests on and alluded to his rocky relationship with the top of the GOP ticket.

"The McCain camp doesn't trust me," Limbaugh said.

But asked if he'd welcome a call from Palin, the conservative talker said: "Of course."

The move to reintroduce Palin comes after much criticism for a stumbling interview she gave to CBS’ Katie Couric last week; increased conservative grousing about the campaign's decision to roll out the GOP vice presidential nominee through high-stakes and high-profile mainstream media interviews; and the suggestion by some observers that she even drop off the ticket.

Quite the contrary, Palin, her family and aides are determined to remind voters what they so liked about the governor in the first place.

After the debate and talk radio hits, the plan is to find a way to let Palin be Palin, moving her away from the pre-fab talking points and letting the down-home daughter of Wasilla be herself.

"She wants to tell her story more, and people around her do, too," added the source. "This is a governor very much on her toes, very much fed up with inaccuracies and fictions about her own life and career."

To this end, Palin was far more aggressive in another interview with Couric today, this aide said

Sitting with McCain for their first joint interview a week after the widely panned sit-down with Couric, Palin interjected when the CBS anchor brought up a report about the Wasilla Assembly of God, the governor's childhood church and one she still attends at times, seeking to pray gays away from homosexuality.

"Sarah Barracuda showed up today," the aide said, reprising the feisty former point guard's high school basketball nickname and one that has been largely forgotten since her post-convention cosseting.

"We're encouraging CBS to run entire thing," the aide said of today's session. "Run it end to end online."

Of concern to McCain's campaign, however, is a remaining and still-undisclosed clip from Palin's interview with Couric last week that has the political world buzzing.

The Palin aide, after first noting how "infuriating" it was for CBS to purportedly leak word about the gaffe, revealed that it came in response to a question about Supreme Court decisions.

After noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases.

There was no verbal fumbling with this particular question as there was with some others, the aide said, but rather silence.

maybe as a law student i'm just out of touch, but surely a person who's ready to be vice president (and possibly president, if you're an actuary), or...i don't know, anyone, should be able to say a word or two about at least one supreme court case other than roe v. wade? brown v. board of education? marbury v. madison? dred scott? fuck, you don't even have to know them by name, even "that one case what let the nigroes in our schools" would do, i bet most people could even name that one.

but the VP?

admittedly, details are sketchy right now, maybe it's too soon to judge, but fuuuuuuuuuccckkkkkk

i'm really looking forward to thursday. maybe my fears of her being surprisingly prepared are unfounded

actually wait, i'm looking at other news sites and some are saying that she was just unable to discuss any other supreme court cases that discussed abortion. that's slightly more understandable, i don't think i could name one off the top of my head. but then again i'm not the motherfucker that wants to overturn them all, so i stand by my loathing

edit: griswold, poe, there we go. i would have remembered eventually

Now I'm no law student, but I was under the assumption that a law degree was NOT a requirement to be President or VP?

i'm not talking about having a law degree, i'm talking about the vice president of the united states being familiar with at least two decisions from the supreme court of the united states. at best, she's simply unfamiliar with the line of cases that she wants to overturn. you really don't have a problem with this? are you thinking about it?

There's a big difference between a law degree and a VERY BASIC knowledge of laws that have been passed in our country. Considering that she's going to be a high-ranking official in our government, you'd think she would have a working knowledge of at LEAST one major supreme court ruling (outside of the infamous Roe vs. Wade).

The more I see Palin, the more I see a painfully average woman. Hockey mom, no knowledge of McCain's legislative history, of the Supreme Court's legislative history, someone who doesn't even know where her official platform is in regards to Pakistan, etc. She's just so painfully unaware and unknowledgeable of everything. I honestly do feel bad for her, she's just an average Jane that was shoved into the political sphere. She probably thought she could do it, but she's way, way in over her head.

I don't want an average person in office. We had that for the past 8 years. I want someone smart, knowledgeable of world affairs, experienced, etc. The thought of her being president is pretty much the scariest thing I can think of. If this perhaps was an isolated incident, she could chalk it up to her poor memory or something else, but with everything else that has happened, it screams to me that she's just ignorant of many things. It scares me to think of what else she doesn't know that hasn't even come out.

Come on QA. You're missing the point. She brings excitement. She's a maverick and reformer. She took on her own party and that was very unpopular. She's going to reform Washington. She's going bring tax cuts and help create jobs and bring reform. And she'll go after those terrorists if we're in danger. And don't forget about the healthcare system, too.

In that article she claims to have lost $20,000 on the stock market so understands what the rest of Americans must be going through.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't people losing their homes. Joe six-pack American doesn't have stocks and shares.

In fact, they do. Anyone that has a 401(k), mutual fund, money market fund, college savings account, or similair type of saving, has stocks and shares.

but I would gather the average joe six pack doesn't have enough in their 401k at her age to loose 20k, they would need a balance of roughly 100k in their 401k, based off an average deduction of 5% and even counting in matching and market growth she's either had that 401k active since before she was a PTA memeber or soccer mom or it's because she has a lot of money to invest.

I didn't lose $20,000. I don't drink beer and my name isn't Joe either.

The overall pension fund for the place I work lost millions in one day. It also has made millions in one day....

I think... I'm not sure... I have no specific's on this, I'll go and try to find some and bring 'em back to ya.
