Oscilloscope Pictures announces acquisition of Slamdance hit film,
DEAR ZACHARY: a letter to a son about his father

New York, NY (September 19th, 2008) – Oscilloscope Pictures announced today the acquisition of North American rights of acclaimed director Kurt Kuenne’s (DRIVE-IN) Slamdance and SXSW Film Festival hit film, DEAR ZACHARY: a letter to a son about his father, a uniquely intense and personal documentary about the murder of Kurt’s oldest friend and the unbelievable legal and emotional madness that ensued. O-scope will theatrically release DEAR ZACHARY in partnership with the newly formed MSNBC Films on October 31st in NYC. The film will be MSNBC Films first film under the new banner. DEAR ZACHARY is a contender for the best documentary Academy Award, which it qualified for by screening in the IDA’s DocuWeek last month and has been a favorite on the festival circuit this year winning numerous awards and devastating audiences.

Critics are calling DEAR ZACHARY "One of the best documentaries I have ever seen in my entire life... a film that will rock you to your core” (Cinematical) and “by far one of the greatest films I've seen in the last few years. The movie is phenomenal (Ain't It Cool News)”.

O-scope head, Adam Yauch says: “I was blown away by the intense fast-paced editing, and the way Kurt uses this to convey raw emotion. Kurt is clearly a great filmmaker dealing with a subject that’s close to his heart.”

Kuenne, who directed, edited and wrote the film, says: "I'm absolutely thrilled that Oscilloscope has chosen Dear Zachary to be part of its first slate of releases. Adam, David and the whole gang at O-Scope are giving it the kind of care, personal attention and enthusiasm an unusual film like this needs to find its audience; it's an honor and pleasure to be working with them."

The deal was finalized during Toronto Film Festival by Josh Braun of Submarine on behalf of the filmmaker and MSNBC Films and by David Fenkel for Oscilloscope Pictures.
