I just heard that you guys in the US don't have clotheslines or hang your clothes outside to dry after washing at all, and use dryers 100% of the time instead, is this true?
Doesn't constantly using the dryer fuck your clothes? And add a considerable amount to your electricity bill?
I know that my clothes shrink and wear out far quicker if I use the dryer to dry them... so I don't.
And yes, I am incredibly bored

actually, i use a clothes line 100% of the time. our dryer broke and we've decided it was for the best. better for the environment and saving us on electricity. it's more work, but it's worth it.

No, it's not true. But a lot of people do use the dryer more frequently than anything else.

its called a fabric softener sheet, and it makes your clothes smell better than any clothing line ever could.

^ not true! it's called fabric softener. it makes your clothes feel softer than a dryer sheet.

Those of us in urban environments don't have the space to hang a clothesline. Plus, if I put my clothes outside, I'd forget about them until it rained. :(

yeah, peeps would steal our threads. It doesn't add anthing to my electricity cuz im at an apartment and its a 'community' one (noone uses the one in the back, so i go there) and my clothes dont smell like burnt ass, nor do they lose color. If they ever don't last long then its because I somehow fell down and tore it.

Clothes don't last because they're poorly made, not because of the dryer. Damn trade imbalance!

My neighbor uses a clothes line and one time it rained and she forgot about the clothes and asked my mom to use our dryer. My mom said no because this lady's a huge bitch that we suspect kills cats.
End of story.
I've never lived anywhere that had room for a clothesline.

Dry cleaners for the clothes worth saving ...washer and dryer for items of lesser value.
I don't live in the ghetto or on a praire...
What do you do in the winter when it cold?

bear this in mind:
If your country ever comes close to developing mechanical drying technology (MDT's) we will proceed with a preemptive strike.

So you constantly have clothes hanging around your house?

So you constantly have clothes hanging around your house?
not when the cats pull the clothes down
we even got two clothes lines in our apartment, so fucking deal with it!
Shit that shrinks in the dryer such as t-shirts, sweatshirts and so forth get hung up on a drying rack indoors or outdoors weather permitting. Stuff that is hung up to dry usually dries in a few hours so its not like there are clothes everywhere throughout the house.
Everything else goes to the dryer with some fabric softener.
Its pretty simple.
I can't imagine hanging my socks and boxers up to dry, outside or in.
Its 2008, don't be scurred of these crazy modern doohickeys like dryers.

I hang dry my slutty lingerie ...
too delicate for washer and dryer, and to naughty for dry cleaner man to see.

i of course put away the clothes when visitors come
I hang my boxers and socks outside.
I do washing once every 2 weeks tho and normally can pick out a dry day when I have time to do that. But if not - I have about 4 weeks of clothes before I start to run out so there is plenty of time to get one in.
Dryers do eat a massive amount of energy. It quite sickening how much but they are insanely handy but i do prefer the outdoor drying feel - to the static indoor drying feel.
Who'd of thought this thread would get two pages long!?!?! I think 10 pages easy tbh!

Yeah no shit I posted this just before I went to bed, I have just gotten up for work, made me a coffee, and had a look in here and was like holy shit! 2 pages!
In winter I hang all my clothes on a drying rack inside. SO for one day a week I'm surrounded by my own socks and boxers. I'd still far prefer that than putting all my clothes through a dryer, that would take forever!
Don't use fabric softener. Unnescessary chemical. Soft, luxurious chemical.
The only time I use my dryer is when my washing's still in my machine and I've gotten up for work and realised my work clothes are wet.

when i've had the space to hang stuff, i'll do it for button down shirts and slacks. but i cold care less for most of the other stuff, its just easier to plop it in the dryer for a bit.
and while the dryer might scarf up lots of energy, its nowhere near how mch the hot water tank uses up! (!)
I live in an area with a retarded dew point for a good bit of the year and I find that my clothes smell like ass when they're out to dry. It's only this time of year that air drying is feasible and i'll be lucky if it lasts another 5 months.
Besides, every time I dry my clothes this motherfucker (http://images.quickblogcast.com/3/2/1/8/1/126549-118123/snuggle.jpg) somehow shows up. *snuggle*

I live by myself so I have unmentionables hanging everywhere. even once they dry they pretty much just stay in that spot until I grab a pair of undies and throw them on.
I get that humidity thing. whenever i visit my friend in victoria, BC the second i arrive everything in my luggage feels damp and gross. I even throw my towel in the dryer before using it when Im there. tsk tsk.
I prefer running the dryer to heat my house 'cause i'm a gangsta.
