Does the rest of the world dislike him like it seems to be reported? And if so - why?

In the UK he is obviously loved. An aggressive driver like Senna but still a young kid who will be a bit reckless. F1 has been pretty boring until the last couple of years imho.

So just wondering what you think?

i don't dislike him but i wouldn't say i cheer for him. when i watch F1, i admire him because he is fuckin' class even though he is still learning the ropes. his celebrations out-of-car after a victory get on my nerve though; he isn't embracing enough. it's like "yeah cunts, i just won, me... me.... ME! all me, fuck that pit crew..."

being a RALLY fan though, i'm very finnish-biased in anything involving motorsport so i cheer for kimi.

i never did but after watching, close to, every race this year, it's growing on me. big time. it's way better now that they've removed all driver aids. seeing F1 cars powerslide at 120km/h around a bend is fuckin' sick no matter how many times you slice it.

i'm still dumbfounded by how fast these things are. everything about them is above reality. a car engine that revs to, fuck i don't even know what it is, 22,000rpm? and weighs less than 100 kilos. what the fuck, man. how do they do it. and the drivers; man, you gotta take your hat off to these guys. it takes some other type of confidence to drive one of these things to the limit.

The guy is a huge talent. There's no question about that. He's also been groomed and trained by Ron Dennis to be a McLaren driver since the begining(like age 12). I can't stand Ron Dennis or the way he handles his drivers and team. When Lewis was teamed with Alonso, I didn't like how the StepneyGate fiasco brought out the worst in the drivers for McLaren. He's a great driver, but is human, and makes mistakes. I have a feeling he's not as good of a racer as people make him out to be though. Yes he's fast in qualies, and when he's got a clear track, he's very fast. But side by side racing, he's very sketchy. He's got a shot to take the WDC this year, and I'd like to see him lose it. Tifosi for life! ;)

In the UK he is obviously loved. An aggressive driver like Senna but still a young kid who will be a bit reckless. F1 has been pretty boring until the last couple of years imho.

We have three comentators for coverage here in the States that are from the UK. It's getting tiresome how much man-love they have for Lewis. He can do no wrong and every turn of the wheel is "brilliant". Peter Windsor who does the after race interviews is so obviously obssesed with the guy I think he sleeps in a Lewis Hamilton race car bed.

From what I've seen in different papers, Lewis is a rock star in the UK, and rightfully so, since the last driver from the UK to make headlines was Button, who hasn't had the best ride since his debut. If he wins the WDC this year, he will be among names like Hawthorn, Hill (Graham and Damon),Clark,Surtees,Stewart,Mansell and Hunt. That is one great list to be on. He will be even more of a star if he wins it.

F1 has stepped it's game this year. Getting rid of traction control was a huge improvement for the series. However, with the Candaia GP axed, and now the French GP axed, I'm begining to think they're losing focus. Theywant to be at more tracks like Singapore with that "bring the race to the people" mentality. All while getting rid of tracks that have huge history, as if nobody cares about that. They only want to race where there's fancy hotels and nightlife. On top of that, they want to make some spec engine rule. So everyone has to run by the same engine concept. A move that certainly goes against the appeal of F1. Innovation and progressive ideas tranformed into race cars and then again to production cars will be lost. Those two factors will be the downfall of F1. And honestly, I can't see the key players (Ferrari,Mercedes,BMW,Reanult,Toyota,Honda) sticking with it. There's just no reason to when you're all racing the same stuff.

I'm still developing plans to hit Silverstone next year, and it will be quite a scene if Hamilton is heading to home GP as WDC.

Did you see Kimi let Massa by for P2? Team orders? ;)

Well, Hamilton ran away with it from the get go. I was hoping to see Kimi tough it up in turn one, but he didn't get near as good of start as Lewis.

It was quite obvious that Kimi let Massa by. That was probably the best action of the day. Alonso is on a great run though. I couldn't stand Fernando before with his attitude, but seeing him take that car from the dregs and bring it to two consecutive GP wins is a great thing. And he's still running very strong compared to Piquet.

My favorite track of season is next. Interlagos!!

Go Massa!!

Why do people like F1? Why?

Because it's one of very few true sports. It's not a game with a ball to chase around. It takes guts and little fear to be successful. When you succeed in any type of auto racing, you're testing your boundries and the car's. It's also an addiction. If there was 12 step program for it, I'd probably sign up. But I'd run away half way through because I love it so damn much.

Another great stat is that an F1 car can go from 0mph to 100mph and back to 0mph in just over 5 seconds.

Few points:

The last USA grand prix wasn't a success really, was it?

Gotta agree, its a shame about canada.

Also, I doubt they will bring the engine thing in where they are all racing the same shell, that would be wrong. Although they do need to bring the costs down so there is more than 2 manufacturers fighting for the top prize. There is the A1 Grand Prix for the changes they are suggesting which hasn't been a huge success even though the money they have poured into it

Also, I'm another who can't say why I like F1. I'll watch nothing happen for 90 minutes but still love it!

Seriously though, when they are coming back to America?

Who knows. Bernie Ecclestone (F1 head honcho) and Tony George (Indianapolis Motor Speedway Owner) are still talking, but that's it. F1 wants at least 20million to bring a race to your track. That price has increased in one year from 12million. Then the track has to be up to F1 standards. Tony George has already spent a boat load of cash doing just that. The first year was a great turnout. And most other years were just as good. However that whole tire fiasco a few years ago really put a bad taste in the casual observers mouth, and a lot of them didn't return for the next two years. Now add in that Tony George doesn't agree with the price increase, and we're left with nothing. There's talk about a street race (like Singapore) in Vegas. And there's also a few historic tracks xlike Road America (WI), Laguna Seca (CA), and Watkins Glen (NY), but all would have to dump huge cash into their facility for one event that isn't locked in for more than one year. So all signs point to Indy or Vegas.

Next year will be the first time that F1 hasn't raced in North America with the cancelation of Montreal. And France has been a track on the calendar since the begining of F1. Just creepy times in the F1 world.

It would be more if they promoted it a little better. The Indy 500 is still the king of all races, but F1 was doing really well until that bullshit with tires a couple years ago.

While I agree that the price of racing is very high (As Roger Penske said "Racing is nothing but turning money into noise."), I also know the top teams have that money to spend. Every cost cutting measure they (F1) take has just meant that they funnel the money down a different tube.So they'll create a new engine design that will keep cost down. The top teams will use the savings and spend it in the wind tunnel or on practice days. It's useless to put any limit on anything in F1. The guys with money will spend it one way or another and have an advantage. It's the guys who work harder that can get results over these top teams. Like Vettel in that Torro Rosso. I mean, that's basically a Minardi with a Ferrari engine. Great turn out for those guys. If F1 wants to put in a cokie cutter engine, it goes against everything. They should just run GP2 cars instead.

God I can't wait for Brazil. I'm addicted big time. ;)

I refuse to discuss F1 until Montreal's race is returned......having said that he has shades of Senna da Silva and will probably meet the same fate if he doesn't kill someone else first...

I don't hate him, but I do find him to be pretty cocky by times, and I am kinda sick of the Lewis love fest from Peter Hamilton, oops, I mean Peter Windsor. I root for Massa, and I really hope Kimi takes Hamilton out in the first corner of this coming race lol

it's funny, I used to feel the same way about Alonso, but now I get a kick out of him. I lol'd when I heard that he would do anything to help Massa win the WDC.

Totally with ya on Alonso. I didn't really care for him at all in previous years (mainly becuase he was beating Ferrari but he was an ignorant ass at times as well) , but recently it seems he's becoming more and more down to earth.

Here's some news on the possible rule changes.
