kind of!

i wrote an opinion when i was an interning for a judge that settled a complicated personal jurisdiction issue, and i find out today that it's a published opinion, which means that it's legal precedent and people can cite to it to prove things when they want to sue each other!

it's all up there on westlaw and lexis and shit, most of it is relatively unchanged from how i wrote it. i'm quoted in headnotes! headnotes, jerry! my name isn't anywhere on it, of course, but still, i know i wrote it, and that's pretty cool to me.

i don't know if any of the words i just typed make sense to anyone but the general gist of what i'm saying is that i rule. i even made a joke, and they kept it in, lol. my shitty joke is now legal precedent

That's so cool, bob. I'm gonna sue just so I can use your precedent. (y)

Dude, don't marry a Turkish girl. For some reason all the aliens and UFOs are interested in them... you might wake up and find she's been abducted before you get a chance to divorce her.

alright alright

http://www.hgoldstein.com/cases/Cherin-v-Cherin.htm

it's not all my work, it's been edited by the clerk and the judge and probably the other two judges that were on the panel (and, for all i know, the intern that replaced me, it was published two months after i left). footnote 9, for example, was not written by me, but i wish it was, because it's pretty sweet. also, the legal reasoning of the case, the way in which we finagled it to hold that the probate court had jurisdiction (which was harder than it looked), i wish i could say that i came up with that by myself, because it was a pretty damn clever idea, but i didn't, that was all the clerk's idea (he was a very clever guy. still is, probably). but i did do the research on it and i wrote it, and a great chunk of the opinion is still my words, so i still feel pretty cool about it.

"While this may have been the straw that broke the marriage's back, it had already been bearing a heavy load due to the husband's acts and words in the years leading up to that moment." yeah, that was all me (i'm kind of surprised that got published actually, it's so lame)

in other news, divorce cases are the saddest things

fake edit: i just noticed that the site i'm linking to is the website of a divorce lawyer who's a partner at a law firm. "On this page we are compiling links to the full text of important Massachusetts Appellate Cases on Family Law and Divorce decided by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and the Massachusetts Appeals Court." shit, i should ask him for a job, he should be delighted to know that i wrote that important case

Do it today. Or at least keep in touch. If you don't, it'd be like putting the controller down while playing NBA JAM while you're on fire. Boomshakalaka.
