We're heading out in a couple days to see David Byrne and Brian Eno.
We want to hit up this place called Moto before we go. It looks like just the meal and vino will cost like $300 for the two of us. It's a different place, http://www.motorestaurant.com/index_moto.php
and we've been there before. I just want to make a memorable night out of it, and eat some great food and have some great wine before we really party.
I'm thinking one night a year to go all out isn't such a bad thing.
What do you think? How much coin have you dropped in a place like this, and was it worth it?

i guess it depends on what you're getting out of the deal. is it actually a special dish you wouldnt see anywhere else or just a fancy higher priced dish on a goofy plate?
last weekend i dropped about $50 on a dinner of soup, steamed crabs and a couple of brews. its was completely worth it for me since i never get to have stuff like that at home.

Yeah, it's very unique in that sense. We each ate a picture of ourself last time we were there. That should give you a little clue as to what kind of place it is.
Weird, but good. I figured weird and good would be a perfect scene before a David Byrne show.
You got me thinkin bout shell fish now though.

whoa, that website is ridiculous!
I spent $150 on a dinner for two once, not including alcohol. it was at a steak place downtown...I forget the name. it wasn't worth it. the best part of the meal was the seared ahi tuna appetizer.
moto has some good reviews though, and it seems like a nice evening out.

I've been treated to meals at Societe Gastronomique clubs in Madrid and Barcelona...there are no stated prices to meals,no menu so to speak, you show up and the evenings meal is served with appropriate apertif, wine and digestif...members pay a yearly fee...but my pops said that the meals were likely worth about 2 grand for 4 diners...I'm pretty thrifty myself cause I love to cook and present more than be served...I'm too harsh a critic...and I prefer rustic food to delicate puny pretty portions...you know that show you're going to see will be awesome...you know that don't you?...(y)

Yeah I know.... I'm very excited. I once met David Byrne in a bar (Empty Bottle) about 10 years ago, and had no idea what to say. I opened my mouth and out came "So, is Brian Eno really the cat everyone makes him out to be?" He looked at me, and said "No". Then he lifted a glass, and we cheered, and I walked away thinking "Oh my god I just talked to David Byrne! OH my god Oh my god Oh my god" And I did this for like two weeks.
I have yet to see him on stage and can't wait.
I totally hear ya on rustic compared to delicate food too. I figured a delicate meal would better suit the night though. There will be plenty of drinking going on afterwards. So I don't want to be all full and lazy.

I went to some italians upper club for someone bday
between me and the boy out bill was 190 bucks.
ouch.
the food wasnt that good nor were the portions. and we were buying the cheapest bottle of wine on the menu and it was shit too.
the best part was the assorted deli meat/olives/cheese platter that we started with but you had to share that amongst a table of like 6.
never.

Yeah, from what I hear Eno will be a no-show. However the tour is based around what Byrne and Eno have done. Eno mainly writes music, so I'm sure Byrne will do a decent job representing him.
Either way, I'm stoked. (y)

The most I ever spent on a dinner AND DRINKS was close to $3K. I got drunk as a lord and think that I lost my money- But I did tell the Maitre D to order whatever he thought was best and lets pour the most expensive bottle of redwine they had. I then invited the waitresses over to share it with me and the Mrs. Apparently the best food in that Swank Italian restaurant was pizza and some Pizza Hut type food(s).
I think that I got hammered and lost my $ bc there's no way that kind of money can be spent at a restaurant. But a good time was had by all. Especially for the person that found my knot if I lost it instead of pissing it up a wall.
Best Meal I've ever had was at a French Restaurant. We had 2 Grolsch Beers and a dozen Oysters, a fine bottle of red wine, and a 4 course meal. Total Damage was around $400 and that was Valentines Day 2 years ago. The place was so exclusive that the Kings son's exwife came in with her entourage of 10+ people while we were there.

Hey, if you liked the platter, head to your local Italian deli and pick up some Hot Soppressata, Domestic Prociutto,Sicillian olives and maybe even some Hot Cappicola. Just about every Sunday for football, we get a huge plate of that goin with a bit of bread and oil&cheese. Ask for it very thin, and spread it out on a plate or just eat off the paper. You wont be disappointed.
I get a half pound of each that feeds roughly four guys and it costs about $20.

After reading Bang's post, it reminded me of a time in Kansas. We were at a convention and were taking out clients to get some dinner. There was maybe 10 of us. We went to Capitol Grille. It's a steak place. Very good. Anyway, I'm with my boss, and we walk in, and we all sit down in this big room just for us. My boss (at the time) has a bit of an ego, so he decides to order a specialty drink for the table. It's called the Stoli Doley(sp?). Vodka martini with pineapple, but it sits and soaks for days before serving. The drink is actually really good. He then tells the server to order three of his biggest lobster tails for everyone to share as an app. Well, the server is more than happy to go to work, but before he does he says, "Wow, you're just like the guy in the room next door. He's ordering all this too!" We didn't thin anything of it, when all of a sudden, we see a friend come from out of that room. We instantly knew it was my boss's brother ordering next door. Now my boss takes this as competition. He tells the server that he never wants anyone to have a empty glass, and that he should hear at least two people shaking martinis constantly. "No problem!" they said. We all ordered whatever looked good, and then some. The drinks were pouring and pouring. I mean we were all blitzed, seriously. One guy tried to leave and somebody shoved ice from a lobster dish down his pants, where he then flipped straight on his ass from the water running down his leg onto the wood floor. We were out of control. The bill gets there, and my boss asks if we beat the room next door. "Yeah, by like $1,500" he says. Never realising that his brother only had 5 people with him.
There's no moral to the story other than eat, drink, and be merry.
Maybe count your brothers guests if you plan on getting into a bill war.
I don't know. I feel hung over just thinking of that night.
The tip alone was like $600.

We spent the equivalent of about $500 or so for a meal in Paris on our honeymoon. More than half of that was the champagne and the wine, though.
It was a very nice evening, I must say.

That's a Hilarious Story: Nothing Beats a Sibling Rivalry Spending Contest when It's Their $
"He tells the server that he never wants anyone to have a empty glass, and that he should hear at least two people shaking martinis constantly."
That should be set to music. That's not a boss. He's a Mentor
