Its a biggie.
Yes means that Gays are no longer reconized in the eyes of the law for marriage. No means that they are (typical prop trickery).
If it is voted Yes, I'm sure it goes back to the courts where again, they will say, its unconstitutional.
Since it has been legal, we've had the same amount of brush fires, no floods that I'm aware of, and nice weather. I haven't seen any heterosexuals tear up their marriage certificates in disgust that their marriage is no longer meaningful. Looks like the churches around my neighborhood are still standing. I haven't seen daily gay pride parades.
huh. Business as usual.
what exactly is the point of ballot initiatives? it seems like if the government doesn't like them, they can just overturn them.
here in massachusetts, for example, prop 1 is to repeal the income tax. everyone i talk to agrees that this would be a horrible, irresponsible idea, i'm not even sure how it got on the ballot (i guess i only talk to smart, responsible people), but everyone seems to be saying that if it does pass, it isn't a big deal because the legislature can just put the tax back. apparently a succesful ballot initiative has the same effect as any other kind of law, the legislature can change it if it wants
so what's the point exactly? i mean, i guess unilaterally overturning a successful ballot referendum is just a big overt "fuck you" to everyone who voted for it, so the government wouldn't do it unless it felt it was important enough, but still.
prop 2 is to decriminalize possession of less than one ounce of marijuana (with an exception for minors). if that one passes, i hope the legislature leaves it be.
also, lol at the people fasting in support of the proposition. here's a quote from the facebook group
Please join us in a nondenominational fast on Sunday, October 12th for California Proposition 8.
Whatever your professed faith may be, your faith and fasting can bring forth the powers of heaven. Please abstain from food and drink on Sunday, October 12th and please pray for a positive outcome for California's Proposition 8. You might also pray that hearts may be softened and that understanding and wisdom will prevail.
Please FORWARD this to those in favor of protecting and restoring traditional marriage in California. We would LOVE to have residents of other states or nations join us in our fasting and prayer!
Isaiah 58:6,8-9
Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy rereward. Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am.

UPDATE
Thank you for all those joining in for this fast.
I wanted to send this message out now seeing that there are some who will fast, but their clock is 12+ hours ahead of mine.
Please keep in mind that the ancient tradition of fasting has always first been an individual choice and with that in mind we all need to use personal discretion, meaning for some of us we may not be able to go from 12am-4pm. Do eat if you need to, a little or a whole meal.
While we continue to invite, please keep in mind this event is not an exclusive event for any particular religion or creed. It is for everyone, wherever they reside, and whatever their spiritual devotion. We welcome all understandings & traditions in fasting; let it add to the whole that we might grow in unity.
May we now reach out in faith and let this fast add irrevocable power to the rights of our divine natures: male & female – fatherhood & motherhood - parenthood.
my pregnant friend participated. "i'm going to starve my baby so that those faggots can't get married" lol what the hell is going on?

Yeah I hate how this prop is worded. I studied my voter booklet and had to put in big black sharpie pen 'NO' next to Prop 8 to make sure I didn't screw it up.
