i don't know if this thread is supposed to be in favor or against those who do yoga....
i've never actually taken a yoga class, but i sort of want to. it would be a great way for me to force myself to stretch out more and stay flexible....

you cant hate on bums in yoga pants!
I live in yoga pants. I own them in a multitude of colors and multiple pairs of black ones (they are all different dammit!)
it is a rare occasion these days when I wear a pair of pants with a zipper. and when I do have to wear a pair I feel so absolutely uncomfortable it's almost unbearable.
oddly enough I have never been to a yoga class. ever.
but I justify the pants because I am a regular gym goer and I walk everywhere aka continual exercise.
ps. maple flavoured skim milk latte ftw!

This is a fairly astute observation...it's more often those big knit woolen type toques with oversized sunglasses with this lot...

Wtf does chai latte have to do with yoga?
I have over 50 pairs of yoga pants ...mostly black, I wear them around the house with a tank top...most comfortable outfit ever!
I do Birkam yoga twice a week at a local studio, and I turned one of the rooms in my house into a meditation yoga room. I prefer to practice at home then with a bunch of sweaty strangers.

Where there is yoga there is chai...this is inevitable...and skinny pale white guy's with shaggy hair and unkept beards who likely wear a keffiyeh cause they think it's dope...
I prefer to practice at home then with a bunch of sweaty strangers.
This is a part of my hang-up with it...that and I think it attracts freaky dudes...I find many yoga people are like reformed smokers, preaching pristine...

I've never gone to yoga because I refuse to take part in the group aspect of it as well.
my friend once said she was going to take me but then retracted the invitation because she didn't think I could hold back my laughter the whole time and would get us kicked out of the class.

I prefer Pilates by miles it works alot of the similar muscle groups and encourages proper breathing technique, without the "spiritual" distraction...good german work ethic...I used it to rehab a back injury, great system...now mind you solo meditation is fine by me,I don't have the patience to engage it but I can see it's value...

I have practiced yoga with varying degrees of diligence for several years. I feel it has helped me a great deal in several ways. Physically I may not be the 'fittest' person going (ok so, I am a bit fat), but I am extremely flexible and have very good muscular endurance, my posture has improved tremendously, and I have good balance. Perhaps more importantly though through learning to control my breathing, I have developed a greater ability to deal with stress, an ability that has been challenged to its utmost in recent years. I feel yoga practice was also tremendously helpful throughout my pregnancy and during delivery.
I mostly practice on my own, but it is good to go to classes now and again as well. As much as you might think you are doing well on your own, you need a qualified instructor who can stand back and look at your posture in the different positions to ensure that you are performing them correctly. Also there's just a lot of nice energy generated when you're in a room full of people focused on a common purpose (om-ing on your own is good and all, but it does not have quite the same resonance!)

^yes, leave it to Peachy to bring the logic...I've heard/read it works wonders as pre-natal excercise and with focused breathing during delivery...and another super valid point with seeing a qualified instructor,do it at home with a dvd and you may be doing it all wrong which could actually negate the benefits...(y)
