Probly the most in-depth update thus far on what's going on with the new album, as well as what to expect. New video interview snippet included. They're actually quite straight-forward in this one, in contrast to their normal selves. Shit's going down, for reals. Doo doo rhymes will ensue.... Enjoy.

"There's a lot of layers to it. It's a deep record. It's overwhelming, in a good way."

Have a nice day.

"It's pretty scatological, to be completely honest. There are probably more scatological lyrics on this particular album than ever before," MCA added. "If you don't know what that means, go home and look it up."

If you're not near a dictionary, we'll save you the trouble: "Scatology" refers to "the study of poop" or "an obsession with the obscene"

Hmm, they've joined forces with 2 girls who between them own just one cup?

Somehow I think this was missed during the Gunnin hype:

(from http://www.ifc.com/music/indie-ear/2008/04/inside-the-beastie-boys-oscill.php)

Moments before our interview started, Mike D--with bicycle in tow--popped out of one of the offices. After exchanging a few pleasantries I asked, "So, what have you been up to lately?"

"Ah, not much, just coming up here, makin' some music, that's about it."

"Oh yeah, what kind of music are you making?" I foolishly inquired.

Mike proceeded to list ten or so different genres of music, leading me to believe that the new Beastie Boys' album--which he said should be out by next year--will be a Latin-infused, Asian hip-hop, hardcore, world-music album. At the end of his lengthy description, a smile appeared on his face, basically telling me, "C'mon Jim, you know better than to ask what a new Beastie Boys album is going to sound like,"

Just something for your brain to eat. Food for thought, I mean.

So I'm listening to the radio, covering a shift at the old bottlo where I used to work. And Triple J is on (cause that's pretty much how I roll), and it says: "Scott Dooley talked to Santogold this week about some of her more recent collaborations"

and I think:

"Scott Dooley is as funny as catching cystitis from a public toilet, but I like Santogold, plus she collaborated with Jay-Z of late, and then of course the B-Boys"

So I listen. And it says:

"I actually did a track with the Beastie Boys for their next album. It's a very......"

and three drunken tarts wander in and start cooing and saying myself and my physically stunted ogrish co-worker are both 'hot'. So I don't hear the rest. Cursed tarts.

So I come home and go to http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/musicnews/s2462408.htm

And read this:

Santogold has done her share of all-star collaborations. She's lent her voice to the latest Jay-Z single Brooklyn We Go Hard. And a few months back she worked with Pharrell Williams and Julian Casablancas on My Drive Thru.

This week she told triple j's Scott Dooley about her latest hook-up.

"I did a song with the Beastie Boys recently. It's for their coming album. It's like a dub track that they did and I haven't even heard what they did on it yet, I just did my partso I can't tell you exactly but it's definitely like a dub kind of feeling."

Both Santogold and the Beastie Boys were on the "Get Out and Vote 08", that encouraged people to vote at the last US Presidential election.

and realised that no matter how much people with no heart complain, DIY is still the best approach.

some of the best news i heard this year was when it leaked that santogold was making an appearance on the new record. her shit's magnificent, i feel. similar to the bboys in that many of her songs cross-pollenate multiple genres within a single track without sounding forced while still maintaining a raw feel. a perfect fit.(y)

I second that! The "Brooklyn Go Hard" song she did with Jay-Z is the sickness.

And... The Mixtape "Top Ranking" that she collaborated with Diplo gets constant play from me.

According to an interview with the boys in NME, the album has the working title of 'Tadlock's Glasses'.

The interivewee said the band has competed 6 tracks, one of which is called Funky Donkey, and that the album is 'more fun' than TT5B.

Here's a wee bit o'information

Not to burst any bubbles here, but if you open up the link to the "tadlock" blurb, i'm pretty sure NME's just making a joking reference towards the photo that illustrates their article when they assume the album's called "tadlock's glasses". The quote is:

"Believe it or not, what looks likely to be called 'Tadlock's Glasses' will be Beastie Boys' eight studio album."

And the picture next to it sports the three bboys, all in glasses.

I wouldn't think too deeply into this.

Because Tadlock make spy glasses? Whose bubble are you bursting? What do you mean?

Anyway, at least we know it's out in May, and that there's a Dub track on there, whatever it may be called. We should expect this to be a joke, much like the Northern Soul thing. But it's still a better title than "Inspired by new York" and "Inspired by heaps of things (if you listen really hard)"

We should expect this to be a joke,

Don't believe the hype indeed - we've all followed the boys long enough now to know they that keep their cards reasonably close to their chest around album release time, and that they enjoy messing about with the press on any given occasion.

The bit that got me excited was the 'using samples plucked from shops the world over' - we'll just have to wait and see I guess?

Otherwise (potential) surreal album title, (potential) spring release date, (probable) world tour, (possible) beastie-dub, um, steel drums and Santogold!?

Yeah, I'm excited by now whatever happens.

Just saying I don't think the writer was being serious when he offered the new album's prospective title, and it looked like a few people were looking pretty deeply into that remark. Didn't mean to offend. Sorry.:o

I read that in the currecnt issue of NME. I read it in a shop so I can't scan the article or anything. But yeah, that track was listed in the mag but not on the website. There was also reference to a Santogold colab and the band using 'obscure samples'.

The article in the mag has the same album title, but a different photo...

Nevertheless, its obviously just a working title.
