View Full Version : If for whatever reason, your candidate loses this Tuesday...

I thought it'd be good to make a pre-emptive thread for people whose hopes and dreams have been devastated on election night. No matter the result, some segments of this board will be shocked. Here's some consolation that the world may NOT actually end.

For the Obama supporters...

If McCain pulls the impossible and wins (I'm doubting it, but you never know), the first thing you have to realize is that McCain is going to likely face a very strong Democratic-controlled House and Senate (maybe even the filibuster-proof 60 seats for the Dems). This means his agenda (or Palin's if something happens to McCain at any point... shudder the thought) cannot pass carte blanche. There will be lots of oversight. And hell, McCain may actually even surprise us and find his long lost "inner Maverick" (the 2000 version of himself) and pull some doozies that'll piss off the conservative base. This seems unlikely since he's in the pocket of religious fanatics he once opposed... but hell, pigs could fly!

For the McCain supporters (aka RobMoney and NoFenders, pretty much)...

Don't worry, Obama isn't going to round up and enslave the white race. Relax. He won't even turn America into a socialist state. Maybe some rich people will pay more taxes, but Wall Street won't be turned into a communist soup kitchen or anything. So if you've been having some whimsical thoughts that you too could become a billionaire CEO... Obama's not going to do anything to you that you can't already handle. In other words, you richies will still have enough money to pay for that extra yacht. Maybe cheaper champagne is in order, but these are tough economic times so it's time to see how the other half live. :P

For the Nader/Barr/McKinney and other third party supporters (I guess perhaps sazi and travesty?)...

Keep on keeping on, I suppose.

Hope this helps!

Cocky, elitist, and condescending. You really are jumping into this Obama thing with both feet aren't you Brett?

Two points to you for making a thread that actually offers an opinion instead of just a link to some Bill Moyers article though. (y)

Can't cheap out on the bubbly....just fire a couple people to make up for it.

Man I am still so torn... I really wish I lived in CA (not really(n)) so I could see the east coast tally before I voted. If I knew for sure that Barry was going to win I'd have no problem voting for Barr. But If I thought there was a chance that he could lose....I'd be willing to try and tip the scale with a *fuck, arghhhh, lame* McCain/ Palin vote and hope for the best. It also doesn't help than the race in NC is so close. Either way I could end up feeling either very proud or very wasteful of my vote. I really don't think I will decide 'til I have the ballot in front of me this time. All I know is that I just wanty it to be over, I am so tired of all of the hate from both sides.

Better to post Bill Moyers than anything off Michelle Malkin's blog. (y)

dude, go with barr. mccain, palin and the republicans aren't true conservatives, but rather blatant whores for corporations, the elite, the defence industry, and christian hillbillies.

I know I know I know.... I'm just hating on Barry and the masses of Obamatons right now. The idea of him getting elected is like I'm getting ready to have a tooth pulled....things are going to be harder to swallow and I won't be able to eat everything I want BUT the pain will go away in time and the rotten tooth will be gone for good.

You're right, it is about time we pulled this rotten tooth (i.e., the Bush administration) and let the healing begin.

Some sense of accountability and a firmer of grasp of the reality of any given situation will be a welcome change regardless of who wins. I honestly think either would bring this, you just can't ignore the pig in the room.
