I tried to get my Starbucks this morning and the line was waaaaay too long, wasn't worth it. PLUS I wanted to get another Obama cup from 7-11. So I run into 7-11 and there's nothing but stacks of McCain cups that no one was touching. The cashier said everyone is coming in there looking for Obama cups today. Awh, no more. Thank god I still have another one here at my desk I shall cherish.

I think I'll go get some ice cream after lunch! (y)

Offering services - like free coffee, donuts etc for voting must be illegal right?

hpdrifter

It is. I think they have to offer it for free to everyone.

Adam

Well, while it is marketed as a recompense for a vote then I think they should be hiring some solicitors to fight the solicitors of the losing side as it will be deemed unfair!

I don't drink coffee, so I haven't contributed to the cup campaign, but obama's winning the 7eleven vote! 7-election.com

at the 7eleven by my work, they had a little display selling obama and mccain buttons and stickers and key chains. all of the obama stuff was bought up except for a "republicans for obama" bumper sticker, and the mccain stuff was just hanging there fully stocked and sad.

holy crap there's a ton of people in my town tonight. this is verra exciting! obama is like 4 miles away from me, RIGHT NOW.

and mccain is like 10 miles away from my mom right now. weird. at work today (she's a special ed teacher aide type person), her coordinating teacher said "well, we better get mccain in there otherwise obama's going to let arabs bomb us and then we'll really know he's a muslim for sure." and my mom was like, "huh? I don't think that's true, and actually I voted for obama". then the lady wouldn't talk to her all day. I guess this lady also doesn't allow the kids to draw people with skin color that isn't white, but some of the kids are hispanic so my mom was like, "can they color the people darker if they're darker?" and she was all, "I guess". scary shit. super scary that she's a teacher.

Nygel

uh, yeah, LOTS AND LOTS of people like that exist.

I like the ridiculous of some hardcore voters. I see Obama supporters being like 'If he doesn't win, I'm moving to Canada'. BUT the McCain supporters take the cake, a facebook group exists where it says "If Obama wins the election then wear black on wednesday to mourn the death of our nation"

wtf?

P.S.
I didn't vote, i moved to florida and never got around to registering here.
Also Florida has Obama ahead for anyone who cares. He also just took Ohio.

That is monumental!

Dorothy Wood

yup. it sucks. my mom said the lady was completely surprised by her response too. I can't believe a woman with a masters degree who's charge of the education of children would say or think such things. it's baffling.

no way! I'm not into crowds. I went down there for 4th of july and it was too much. I'm going to hang out at my friends' bar in a little bit. there will be quite enough rallying there. and probably dancing and hugging and high fives if things keep going the way they're going now! yay!

i'm following the election on google news (there's a neat map right on the page) and i hate hate HATE the titles of the news stories. they're all like:

OBAMA WINS OHIO - WE PREDICT

OBAMA 134 - MCCAIN 35 - SOURCES SAY

why can't they just say "we're assholes and we don't have a clue" instead of trying to call it ahead of time. i hate the media

I'm sure you don't need telling the impact that the US has around the world - for better or for worse - and the fact that a black man born in the 1960s is about to become the most powerful figure on the planet.

i remember in one of my poli sci classes in college, a professor was talking about the kind of things that people require when they want to vote for a president and he said "can you think of any presidents whose last names ended in a vowel?" and i was like damn, we're too racist to even vote for an italian

When I see pictures of Hussein Ahmedajinedadobama with his family I must admit to feeling a real sense of history welling up inside me. As someone with a degree in American Studies and a dissertation on Bayard Rustin I'm glad I'm around to witness something on a par with (or rather a result of) the civil rights movements etc. of which I have only studied rather than experienced.

fuck it im calling it... obama wins.

An aussie hip hop band here called the herd made a track called 'the king is dead' after john howard (our old prime minister and a best friend of bush) lost the election in a landslide.

Although they make a few aussie-specific references most of the lyrics apply to bush as well....

The King is Dead (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHbXfSJNhXE)

lyrics -

The people that you projected as
We were nothing of the sort it sold us all short
Put down the champagne
No toast to the legacy
(no way) And all the propaganda of prosperity
That’s what a machine does and they don’t need therapy
You turned us into a nation of haters
Far right appeaser/ believer in whatever get you leader/
Dog whistle through the speakers/ see who bites it
I noticed a hell of a lot of people liked it
An ethical choice is simpler if you price it
Conquer by dividing that’s why you admired him?
unless pushed we would never have retired him
Fuckin pirate history will damn him/
once it seemed like nothing can damage him
[UNKLE HO MANDARIN - hook us up Unkle?]
Crook, you got your arse played in Mandarin

Finally the King is Dead, we cried off with his head
Everything must change,
We danced like new years eve, we danced from relief,
Everything must … Nothing stays the same oh, Nothing stays the same oh

Yeah Cats I know are feeling just like the rapture
I can tell who this mood is failing to capture
It’s like somebody finally did light that match up
And burn down the parliament, learned from the argument
Can’t be non-partisan, when you’re an artist
And you put your heart in it, and that’s not even the half of it
Like my man said, we’re talking butter and bread
Better if his words were never uttered again
Mostly vindictive, who could have predicted
Just a few tax breaks to keep us all addicted
The dickhead dictator leader imitator
Made me feel immature when I said “I hate ya”
Did you read the paper the day after and hear the laughter?
I’ll read it to you, it starts with M McKew and ends with you
No broader view from the people on your ship that you used to call crew Huh! That’s typical, now I guess it’s difficult
For the type of person who only thinks of individual
No residual, you’ll see our resilience
Take your bat and ball and head for the pavilion

Just promise me this, no rose petal glasses, quickly confine him to part of the past
