How you finding Bristol? Job going well? Discovered any really cool bars yet?
I quite like Start The Bus, and if we're talking clubs I love Thekla. The whole idea of a club on a ship is so cool, especially when you forget about it then go up for a cigarette to be greeted with the beauty of the river at night. Awesome stuff.

alreeet my lovely (a couple of local people have said this to me already - i am most delighted)
the job is really fantastic. it's a lot more than just an arts cinema, duuuude. it's a research and innovation facility and a cultural centre and a place where you get shit hot cider and play games and create robots and yeah, cool beans.
i was talking about start the bus just last night with someone, ha! i went on tuesday. i like the art on the walls there, and the menu. i also really love this fantastic beer with an apple flavour they serve there called apple bocq. YUM YUM YUM.
i have been really shit at going to bars other than that one (as it is just a hop, skip and a jump from work) or going anywhere.. at all, really. work has been mental so it has been a matter of home>bus>work>bus>home most days i am afraid : (. i really need to see what is out there. apparently blowpop at their carling academy is a pretty good night. you probably know more than me. tell me! i know this a really nifty city to experience loads of stuff in but have been just concentrating on finding my feet at work right now. but i will rectify that situation soon. we're hopefully going to be doing a screening with massive attack next month - i'll get that lot to take me out. ha! i wish.
i am also quickly learning about the really horrible places to go. some people look at me like i am diseased when i say i live in fishponds atm. i feel like being like "yo, my mum lives there. and it's quite a nice flat really so shut yer face you clifton-residing snob". i guess you are near the studenty-trendy gloucester road-y area, are you? i need to research places to live. and places to go. er. i'm going to the zoo on saturday if that counts :o
how is uni? have you done any studying yet? ha!
er.. this should really have been a PM. does anyone have anything to add about bristol or the south west? HELLOOOOO ENGLAND!

The Lizard Lounge is my favourite club in Bristol. Had many good nights in there.
I'm a journalist in the South West of England so I get to go to Bristol quite a lot. Oh, and Temple Meads train station for when I go back home! hah!

I love Bristol - but they do tend to hate us Welsh dudes there if we're not careful - not sure what that's all about? - just boarderland hostilitly I guess?
Thekla's wicked - I've got fond memories of Chester P taking the piss out of my failed b-boying efforts there and hanging out with the Apects a bit there about a decade ago (has it really been that long since I was down with the kids?)
I like the way that Bristol's more hilly (like Wales really:)) than here in Londinium.

Lizard Lounge isn't really my thing. It's OK but nothing special, music is a bit weak and if you're looking for the whole "dinghy underground club" thing I would much rather go to The Tube.
Yeah Claire, Fishponds (+ St Pauls) is just the ghetto, in Freshers' week all the welcome talks and shit told us to stay away from there. I've been to some of the dodgy bits (near Lakota and Blue Mountain) and I can kind of see what they mean. I'm guessing your mum is a Yardie drug dealer?
I'm actually on the UWE Frenchay Campus, so like a 10 minute drive out of town. It's a real bitch cuz it means at least £6 on taxis for a typical night out. Still, there's a couple of nice bars on campus and millions of cool people so I don't really need to go to town that often.
The zoo sounds pretty cool, a load of my mates went on Wednesday but I had to pass as I'd been up all night due to Obamatime. Wish I'd gone though, looks like a right laugh. There's loads of hilarious pictures of them with those big picture boards with spaces for the heads. You probably don't get what I mean, so here (http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v373/49/58/775605606/n775605606_4752666_6040.jpg)'s a picture.
Are Massive Attack playing did you say? Might be worth attending. I'm going to the Academy for the first time next Saturday, there's a HUGE drum n bass night happening but I'm guessing that's not really your thing?
PS
Your location is spot-on, that is exactly how people say it. Love it!

Work? Oh yeah, it's OK I guess.

I'm a journalist in the South West of England so I get to go to Bristol quite a lot.
oooh who do you work for? i am a communications manager MAY I SEND YOU MULTIPLE PRESS RELEASES IN RETURN FOR YOU FEATURING MY VENUE/FESTIVAL/EVENT IN YOUR PUBLICATION? ; )
brodie - it's on. come on up. i have a pint of apple beer for you with your name on it.
padmeister - get the night bus, my dear. £2.50 flat fare and it goes to frenchay. every hour past midnight.. it is my savour, living in the GHETTO an' all : ( it's not that bad. although a friend here says she plays "spot the prostitute" when visiting her friend down there : ( eh, i exaggerate. it's a nice wee flat my mum lives in and it's a pretty normal wee pocket in a shitty area, i guess. well. i'm not there for the bouncing nightlife, just a safe place to sleep.
massive attack, yes! they did the music to a new film called in prison my whole life (http://www.inprisonmywholelife.com/intro.seam), which is about mumia abu-jamal. a good thing about working for an arts venue is that because you are supposedly partners and buds with all the other arts venues you get offers of free gigs all the time. i might try and see gza by winging it.
i might actually go to start the bus after work tonight. i keep on thinking about apple beer, mmm..
btw have you SEEN the variety of ciders in this part of the world? oh my god. at home if you say you're a cider drinker you are looked at like you're a bit of a pisshead. but here it is artisan, man. i had one the other day that looked like it was half slush puppy.. brilliant.
st pauls is a no-go area so i hear. and easton. and lawrence.. lawrence weston? i don't want to get stabbed.
hugh from river cottage has his restaurant, er, an hour and a bit away. i doubt he plays some bangin' drum and bass though : (
i need to read more of the venue. we get it for free at work but i just check we have a good presence in there then everyone else steals it.
i may be going for a course in london soon for a few week/ends every couple of weeks.. some cultural leadership training course for black film exhibitors and stuff.. yes, thrilling i know. so i'll pick your brain about your home town some time soon since i'm going to be sat in a hotel room for days on my ownsome. *calls peachy and venus*

Shit yes I know what you mean about the ciders, it's amazing. Have you been to The Apple (bar on the river) or The Corey Tap yet? Epic cider bars, with really nice homely interiors featuring barrels and ACTUAL LIVE APPLES and shit. Happy times. (y)

I'm coming to visit all you guys. I like cider. :) if you drink cider around these parts, you get a punch in the face usually. I don't know why, it's lovely. I suppose drinking anything vaguely sweet automatically makes you a loser/pussy/homo. :/

It does anywhere outside the West Country (unless it's super strength). But you can't beat locally made cider, the type of shit that can be super strong or super light depending on which part of the barrel it's pumped from. Delicious shit. (y)

Probably anyway. I wouldn't know, because I haven't been.

THE APPLE. i have been hearing about that place for fucking years, ever since my mum moved here. it was getting refurbished every time i visited her back in the day but now it is open properly. banksy has quite a few launches/events hosted there.. i'm going to find out his identity through my contacts so help me god.
i am going to turn this into a cider thread.
it is really curious how you are perceived in certain countries/regions when you say you are a fan, yes. but as i said before here you are regarded as some sort of connoisseur if you know your ciders. so go forth, sarky and everyone else, and love your ciders.
ooh. padster. i went to a pizza bar tonight. one that serves booze (and pizza, obviously) until 5am. renato's.. it is legendary, apparently. it is near the old vic, and has been serving pizza to daniel day lewis et al since time began so my colleagues thought i should be introduced. go there.

It seems everywhere you go nowadays you are getting stabbed. I can't go down to the shops and back without a trip to the hospital.
That's right. You can't even go here.

bristol and cider are both very nice.
last time we went out there was to a drum and bass night at the academy-great night but rubbish for having to queue to get out for cigarette.
time before we went to another random drum and bass thing at Lakota-another great night but super chavtastic!! thought it might be a bit scary walking back to my friends at 5 through st pauls way but was ok-there were loads of us and i was to wasted to care anyhoo.
i think it's fishponds where they live-is there a bus station opposite lots of nice terraced houses?
don't get down there as much as i'd like to-we went to this amazing cocktail bar too-sorry can't remember the name but it was lush!!
a friend of ours up this way-worcestershire-makes some of the best cider i ever did taste
