View Full Version : Who's the richest person on this board?
I have about minus £2000 as my net worth. So I doubt me. Unless we are all in debt and I have the least debt?

nope i got about double that debt which really fucks me off as i've always been pretty much careful with money-hardly buy new expensive shit-never get stuff on HP-ok so i have a growing clothes addiction but i'm talking trawling ebay for amazing cute bargains. It's all from the boringest shit like solicitors bills when we bought house and garage bills for my car and tax bills i forgot to save for. oh my god how did my life get to this....i may just run away

I'm pretty damn proud of how low my debt it. When I was about 21 - I lived at home. I spent and spent and was pretty much a alcoholic and all round wanker. I was in debt by about £18,000 and thought nothing of it - just paid minimum balance on credit cards. Then I really looked at my debt I felt sick. In the next 18 months, I paid it all off and had £3,000 in the bank. Then I quit my job to start my own business and I then ended up about £3k in debt. Anyway, I find £2k a pretty happy medium of debt to be in - its all on 0% credit cards and gives me loads of flexibility.
Funny thing, when I was heavy in debt and near the point of tipping, I never missed a payment. My credit score now is great - even when banks are stopping their lending and I earn about half as much as I did in 2001 (when I was 21), I get the offer of credit all the time and my credit limit is over £20k, still rising with none of it above 5% APR. If/when I get a mortgage the only problem I should have about my credit worthiness is how much I earn currently.
Anyway, my advice is that you can battle your way out of it. I know living with parents again for you is not possible as you have a house and for others it won't be not a favourable idea, although for 18 months of annoyance for a life time of good credit - its worth in imho. Further advice would be - NEVER miss a payment to, just pay minimum rather than missing, that one missed payment can fuck up 6 years of cheaper credit when you need it.

Yeah only a few years ago i was talking to a friend who has loads of debt and just thought-how does she sleep! But mine is totally managed-all 0% too and i never miss a payment. I've always had the ethos that i don't mind being skint so long as i don't owe anyone! Fucker!! But last time i had about £1300 on a card i just threw as much money at it as i could and paid it off-it just crept up again with bills i didn't have savings for. Buying this house was something unexpected so we had no savings for all the solicitors bills. But we were given half the house so musn't grumble!!
I pity these pensioners you hear of who've been allowed like 14 credit cards and maxxed them all-banks are cocks!

Ugh - I used to work for HBOS in mortgages at the height of the boom. Basically it was sell sell sell - I hated it and disagreed with it. I used to say stuff like "I am contractually obliged to ask you if you require a loan, credit card, or increase your borrowing after making your own choice of informed decision and get other quotes". Or something similar, I used to get in trouble with the managers for my attitude towards sales but the amount of people who was happy to hear a cynical sales pitch rather than one where I throw facts at them and make them think they are richer was amazing. I said it then, it was unsustainable, everything domestic was too cheap, house prices was too high but no1 really believed me. If you sat down and looked at how money worked 3 or 4 years ago, it made you ill. Now look where we are...
But where I got my sales is when I noticed people was on the most expensive products - ie those who had not questioned anything for the past 20 years, thus the most profitable for HBOS. It was policy not to sell to these but I did anyway - kinda how I kept my job cus it showed the sales stats although it would be a loss for the company.
Also, I know HBOS shares dropped by a crazy amount other month - but they wasn't the worse bank. They was pretty solid compared to others but because of how fickle money is, it fell when two or three thought it might.
I'm ranting now, sorry.
Back to topic ~ the reason I did this thread if you hadn't guessed was because I misread ericlee's thread as this.
